Re: xv6800 with gps
What you need to do is connect via EVDO for GPS. You need to do two things:
1) DO NOT FLASH MR1. IT'S NOT NEEDED AND WILL TOTALLY KILL YOUR GPS. (It can be hacked but isn't worth it.) 2) Go to the thread by Shadow Tech for Alltel GPS and it will outline steps for running the program QPST to unlock your GPS. A few other things I would suggest are to flash radio 3.42.50, maybe play with BuildOS and flash a ROM like nueROM3, and read up on GaMedic's thread on how to flash (definitely a must!). |
Re: xv6800 with gps
VW has their GPS lock so that you are left using there VZ Navigator at $10 a month. The Touch Pro is lock not allowing you to Google Maps, TomTom, and others. There is a fix for the Touch Pro but I don't know if it will work on other devices.
AT&T you can install what ever GPS program you want to use & you don't have to pay to use the GPS. The fact the VW does this really pisses me off. |

Re: xv6800 with gps
Some of you are right to an extent... but dind't go into depth :)
1. If you flashed with MR1 you need to read on how to revert back to previous settings here. 2. You do not need a data plan for standalone GPS. But,if you plan on using aGPS, which was the advice MrObvious gave you, then you need a data plan, or be on pay-as-you go, but you will get a few dollars in KB usage. 3. You can connect using no internet connection, with Standalone GPS, which takes longer. |
Re: xv6800 with gps
I will agree, GPS needs no connection or service from the carrier but aGPS does. As has been said before aGPS will assist in giving faster locks but since you are using iGuidance and not Google maps, I dont see why you would need a dala plan. I dont know a lot about the MR1/MR2 updates as I learned to stay away from them for a long time but I do know (again, as was already said) VZW locks the GPS with thier radio so we all have had to flash a Sprint radio on a VZW phone to get our GPS to work.
