This is the only mention of GPS I foundin the Owner's manual pg.43:

"Location Setting
Allow the mobile phone network to detect your current location via your device’s built-in GPS chip. This is especially useful in times of emergency.
On the upper right of the Phone screen, one of these icons will be shown: LOCATION ON (your location can be detected) LOCATION OFF (your location cannot be detected except by 911)"

So it seems that Sprint qualifies the 911 location feature as GPS.

I'm confused. Can someone please explain to me how to get the sprint a-gps working? Sprint charges $2.99 per day or $9.99 per month, but I don't know how to enable it. Do I still need to get a bluetooth gps reciever?

For the moment, yes you still need to get a bluetooth GPS.

Sprint doesn't support using a-GPS on the 6800 for anything more then the mandated 911 locator service.

Well this is not necessarily false advertising but I think this is a form of deceptive advertising. They advertise "GPS enabled" in bullet point format making people think that the phone is natively capable of gps turn by turn navigation. I bet there were a bunch of people that purchased it thinking it was capable of gps navigation. I understand about the 911 part but why deceive.

I find it deceptive too. It was a selling point that swayed my purchase decision. They didn't say: GPS (ONLY for E911), they just said GPS.

FCC Enhanced 911 (E911) Rules
BACKGROUND
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires wireless carriers to transmit specific latitude and longitude location (Automatic Location Identification = ALI) information as well as “911” calls to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to identify the location of the caller in case of emergency.
Generally, the rules require that carriers identify an E911 caller’s location within 50 meters of the actual location for 67 percent of calls and within 150 meters of the actual location for 95 percent of calls.

Mogul’s ALI CAPABILITY

The Mogul is an ALI-capable smart device equipped with a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver supporting a satellite-based GPS ALI-capable network to comply with the FCC’s ALI requirements.
The network compliance with the above FCC requirements is dependent on: (a) the use of digital technology by the wireless network; (b) GPS satellite signals being able to reach the handset (such transmissions do not always work indoors, for example) ; and (c) handset signals reaching wireless “base stations” (atmospheric and environmental conditions may cause variations in handset receiving signal strength).
Also the transmission of the ALI information is subject, in part, to system constraints within the wireless network to which the E911 signal is transmitted and over which UT Starcom has no control.
Finally, customers are advised that the Mogul’s ALI capability is to be used for E911 purposes only.

However, have you heard about the firmware upgrade (available in a few months), that will add EVDO Rev A capability? There will be one other cool surprise with this firmware upgrade...

Internal GPS will be enabled.

That will allow GoogleMaps, GPS Directions and Sprint Locator Service to all work.

Yea, about that...... i wouldnt get my hopes up for that one, ill only believe it whe i see it.
