Based on the Qualcomm spec sheets there does appear to be some differences in the architecture between the two. Its interesting to note that on the MSM7500 (Mogul) spec sheet they seem to show the GPS and CDMA signals multiplexed onto the same antenna on the recevier side of the radio. They also say on their data sheets "Alternate GPS antenna configurations are available".

Mogul here:

(mods a little help with the links please )

Trinity here:

Another link about the RFR6500 radio receiver side chip:

"Integrated GPS receiver allowing for simultaneous GPS operations with CDMA2000"

I also find it interesting that many of Sprint Telenav phones require BT GPS when they should be capable of AGPS based location (PPC 6700). Hopefully they plan on giving us some sort of limited access to the integrated GPS for Telenav purposes on the Mogul in order to spare us the BT GPS puck. IF thats the case maybe there is hope that it can be exploited with hacks.

SO, in a nutshell, I don't think we should have a separate GPS antenna in the Mogul because the GPS receiver uses the cell antenna....

Who knows....I'm probably blowing smoke out my a$$, but it is interesting.

Any gurus have an any thoughts on this???

My research got me to the some conclusion,
now someone need to take a part the 3600P ROM update and try to apply it to the Titan

I give up, you're not reading what I post, you're just coming to the conclusion you want regardless of reality... Gigatigga, you're on your own... Thanks for starting the thread for me. I'm out.

If you notice in the diagram of your msm7500 you'll see the PCS/Cell antenna can operate alone in duplex mode, or in a triplexed mode with a DIFFERENT antenna, one that is actually tuned to the GPS bands as well. You don't have that. We'd be able to see it inside the phones case if you did (unless I'm completely blind or missing something obvious). Without that antenna it's proof the phone has been built on the duplex design instead...

C'mon shadomite. What if we sprinkle some pixie dust on the case...maybe GPS will work then. That's not likely to happen though because we all know pixies are unionized and are on strike at the moment.

Another option involves an external GPS unit, a 6800 and some duct tape

but, in December 15, 2006 they say about the 3600P the some thing

...

and no, it has no built-in GPS as some rumors said! The only GPS that this phone will be able to use is "stand alone GPS" (as HTC puts it), what in other words means "Bluetooth GPS unit" that is separate from the phone. Anyway this phone is small, has no QWERTY keyboard (that some people don't like at all) and generally is a nice phone with full 3G offering: it has both video calling and HSDPA (fast UMTS)!

so, you never know,..

someone have the pictures of 3600P inside and pictures of 3 antennas ?

No, that's for an external CELL antenna.

like I said early in this thread, gps on the mogul aint happening, but most people chose not to listen and bust open their mogul only to prove my point. The PPC 6700 had an unactivated gps chip it in just like the 6800.

This is one of several reasons why I abandoned Sprint/Verizon and CDMA a month ago. No more ESN changes and phones that are useless outside the USA. Abd crippled phones with very little 3rd party and underground support compared to their gms brethren.

I know thats what the manual states, but if you look at the diagram for the msm7500 chip this could be one of the two antennas shown. Inwitch one of them was triplexed to be used with the gps.

GPS that works

Ok, I know that there is a lot of discussion about the installed GPS on the Mogul, but my question is what 3rd party software works? I just made the move from a series of Treo's and have used Tomtom with it. So this is my first smartphone experience. Anyone know what type of software and BT adapter I can use to get GPS to work?

That's pretty common for Sprint and their higher end phones. Since its capable of Assisted GPS without the need of an external GPS unit, they state that it has GPS.
