Besides, without access to rtask in bootloader its unlikely you'd be able to get any control over the radio (or be able to debug the radio).
i talked to my coworker in honk kong he said the original htc titan doesnt have to be unlocked for gps , he said all he had to do was get a bootleg gps program and that was it(he has both titan and tilt)

"Actually the gps does not need to be unlocked.

The most important thing is you have to get a cracked/with keygen map/routing software with maps and set the correct COM PORT setting right to match your phone GPS PORT setting.

You can search map software like ROUTE66, TomTom, Destinator, GARMIN, IGuidance...............and most important thing is you have to get a working map to match the map software you choose.

BTW, you can also use google map for ppc, but google map's maps need to download realtime when you navigate so your phone service provider will charge you the fee for data transmission (GPRS charges). But those softwares above since the maps are preloaded on the storage card so it won't charge you anything."(this was one of our conversations)

it is a fully working gps not agps or all the other myths going around... htc themselves told me that sprint blocked the gps capabilities on this phone and i also think that there is a registry tweak that can enable it or maybe a missing driver

I take it someone can use a fully registered version of software, rather than bootleg versions, which are not legal and really shouldn't be endorsed at PPCGeeks.com?

So which COM port is it? I see COM ports and GDP ports for external GPS.

I'm seriously hoping that Android will end this sort of secrecy - and even if it doesn't, maybe it'll prod manufacturers into being more open - we'd all win!

Good luck, Shadowmite, maybe if you can find something, your findings can help us fix GPS so that it works properly... I'm sure that Sprint/HTC will enable it, but how well it works is another question - the Tilt's GPS doesn't work as advertised either. Most apps time out before the internal GPS has initialized for some reason, requiring people to run two apps before getting one functional GPS app - according to what a friend of mine with the international version of the Kaiser has told me.

I've heard similar stories to this (not specific to the Kaiser) from developers writing LBS apps for internal GPS on the WM6 platform. Supposedly the WM6 GPS API is flawed, and doesn't always return (if at all) the expected response when called from other programs.

Here is one such public discussion on the issue:

Wow. Very interesting link, I had no idea about that issue. That will be interesting to pose as an explanation if/when people have trouble with this.
