why does my phone get slower

Ok I know this may seem like a dumb question, but here me out

Regardless of how many times I soft boot my device, this phone just degrades itself after a hard reset.

I don't really have a lot of installed or running programs (in fact I actually have 15MB of free ram at all times) but just things like text messaging get really slow and eventually i am typing faster than it can keep up with

Does the phone fragment like a hard drive? other than e-mail and texts and the occsional opera mini use, i don't use the phone for anything else. Soft resetting doesn't seem to fix it.

So again this may seem like a dumb question, but why is my phone eating itself?

I run Oxios when it gets really bad and it does free up 4 MB or so but its still so much slower than when I flashed it.

Re: why does my phone get slower

Just like with a PC, I've found that every few months starting over fresh is helpful. Back up what is necessary and do a hard reset. I do that regularly and it keeps everything running smooth. A necessary evil when dealing with Windows.

This is very true. My HDDs get it at least 2x a year. Also, while some have mentioned RAM reclaimers or App managers, you also asked about fragmentation on the device and they answer is yes. An app that will help you with this is Pocket Mechanic Professional but this is only for the card as main memory cannot be done.

How I do my PCs at home is I will low level format the HDDs and reinstall the OS. Then install whatever apps I need, update everything as needed and then create a backup. Once that backup is made I can 'restore' by writing over the HDD or formatting and 'restoring' and have a clean install in a very short amount of time and it be trouble free.

The same can be done with youre device. Flash it and have all of your settings and apps how you want them and then use SPB Clone or Backup and create that backup. Keep it in a safe place. When ever you want to restore it you might wanna use PIMBackup first to backup your contacts, calender, email, text, ECT and save that. Then restore the device and then restore your PIMBackup. IDK if it can get any more simple than that.

Re: why does my phone get slower

i tend to install programs on my device since i only install a few. would i gain anything by moving them to the storage card?

i always thought it didnt matter since mem usage and performance is based on how many programs are running as opposed to where they reside

Re: why does my phone get slower

I think keeping the ROM on the device and all apps and data on the card would help but eventually I think you will still have the issue (key word: eventutally).

Also what today plugins are you running? Alot of plugins or a launcher could be hogging RAM.

Re: why does my phone get slower

Im a big fan of texting and find that after too many messages, It slows my Diamond. You might want to delete them on a consistent basis.

(well I can speak based on my own experience)

Hope this helps somewhat.

TWIN

Re: why does my phone get slower

If you get an aftermarket ROM like nueROM3 it will help.
