Sprint SERO Tethering

Hey everyone,

Will the Mogul be like the Titan in that it has "undetectable" tethering capabilities? Also if you call to change from a 6700 to a 6800 after you've bought it will they change anything on your SERO plan too? I am also wondering as a side note about the SERO website, you can only order by calling now???

Tommy

KingGanon 06-20-2007 12:37 AM

i work for sprint, i haven't heard anything about tethering yet, i ordered my mogul earlier today, so im waiting to get it so i can test it. even on our intranet site to get phones, they changed the ordering process. we can't upgrade through the phone, only internet site.

havieri23 06-22-2007 01:08 AM

i have 5 days to figure this out, before my 30 day exchange is over. tried pdanet 1.72 and 1.73 and got an error saying it not compatible with this device. anyone knows how?

Pibe38 06-22-2007 01:19 AM

5 days? The device has just been released...

And from what I read the current versions of PDANet are not WM6 compatible.

B18DelSolT 06-22-2007 05:07 AM

i used internet sharing and woked like a charm, all i did was switch network connection from phone as modem to sprint and it worked just fine :). now if they can detect it, i have no idea, hope not lol used itfor like 5 speed tests and a couple mins or browsing.

flipside 06-22-2007 07:54 AM

I've seen conflicting reports about whether or not they can detect it. Some are saying they can and charge you $0.001 per KB if you do NOT have a PAM plan.

I also saw that people can not get PDAnet to work correctly but are having no problem using USBmodem. USBmodem is cheaper too!

That no links thing is really f-ing annoying guys.. I made a donation and everything.. sheesh

Would this registry tweak allow tethering to go undetected without using any third part software for the 6800?

http://www.ppcgeeks.com/registry-ent...ing-t3151.html

I e-mailed June Fabrics and they linked me to a PDANet trial and it worked for USB and BT tethering. However from my laptop it looked the same as if I just initiated a regular BT DUN connection. But I don't know conclusively if it did anything different on the 6800 to mask the tethering.

havieri23 06-22-2007 08:22 AM

you used pdanet on the ppc6800 tethering?. I couldn't get mine to work at all. how do set it up as pam? is there a write up link?

letsgoflyers81 06-22-2007 08:27 AM

They asked me to test version 1.80. The latest version I can find on their site is 1.73, so I'm guessing they fixed whetever wasn't working. I can put a write up together tonight but I can't do it now. I'm at work and I don't remember exactly what I did to make it work.

havieri23 06-22-2007 10:16 AM

can you upload the 1.80 version with the write-up? thanks

Killabee44 06-22-2007 05:46 PM

PDAnet 1.80..

3 Attachment(s)
This is a beta but is reported to be working..

tech 06-22-2007 07:10 PM

thanks for the upload!!!

Killabee44 06-22-2007 10:25 PM

No problem..

bamrock 06-25-2007 07:17 PM

Confirmed.... pdanet 1.80 worked with Mogul on xp. Simple.

Zekeman 06-25-2007 08:20 PM

So then there basically is no need to modift registry as Pdanet bypasses everything for you correct?

Rabid 06-26-2007 02:47 AM

Has anyone confirmed that the PPC-6800 can tether on Sprint with PowerVision -- undetected?

Please let us know.. and let us know if it's via PDAnet or USBModem! :o :o :o And, if there's any special settings we need to use! :)

Thank you so much.

bbondwvu 06-26-2007 01:53 PM

can someone tell me more about the SERO stuff? I just changed my plan 2 days ago and if I can change to something different and cheaper :) please let me know!!

Thanks

The PDANet people told me it uses the main Power Vision login, not the second one that's normally triggered with tethering. This would make it undetectable to Sprint unless you go through tons and tons of data.

havieri23 06-27-2007 12:33 PM

how long is the trial for 1.80 beta? is there a trial period? i want to switch my 700wx back to the 6800

letsgoflyers81 06-27-2007 12:39 PM

It says it's a trial but it doesn't give me any warnings about an expiration date.

AuntyDan 06-27-2007 05:42 PM

Does phone function when tethered?

Does the phone itself function whilst you are tethered? If so does an incoming call cause the tethering connection to be dropped?

(I have a friend with a Cingular 8525 who says enabling tethering/PAM disables the phone itself until)

Thanks

HamiltonRC1 07-21-2007 11:17 PM

I have been using my 6800 with PdaNet 1.80 for a week now. It does not stop the phones functionality. You still receive phone calls or text messages. If you answer the call, it will drop your online connection. But you can reply to text messages and it doesnt drop your connection.
Just as a side note, I did the registry tweak to disble NAI also. I just dont want to take chances and be billed even though I am on the SERO plan.
So far connection speeds with PdaNet are 2.4mps connecting via USB. Im happy. Hope the revision makes it faster though.

Does the phone charge while tethering using the USB cable?

sandiegodude 07-24-2007 02:17 PM

anyone received their bill as of yet?

i'm sure if you were charged you'd submit a new thread, but i thought i'd ask anyways.

thx

maxxed 07-24-2007 02:45 PM

i'm gettin my sero mogul today! but from other forums i believe you should have no problem tethering

SpenceMan01 07-24-2007 03:17 PM

I've got USBModem working, but I have a question about PDANet: Does it require Activesync to be installed on the tethered computer? I've looked around a bit and haven't seen the answer.

Yes - It will not connect if it is not synced.

sandiegodude 07-24-2007 06:46 PM

I used to use the built in internet connection in xp without being synced with my old 6700. anyone tried that?

I guess that's another plus side to using USBModem (first one being that it's cheaper). I just have the driver INF file on a flash drive and can install it quickly without having to dink around with Activesync.

I am running Vista Home Premium and I have successfully connected my Mogul via Bluetooth DUN and USB using PDANet 1.8.

divxrippimp 10-01-2007 11:07 PM

i got it to connect in vista without pdanet using bluetooth pan... via internet sharing using the sprint pcs profile not the phone as modem profile...
