Things to download and put on my alltel ppc 6800

I bought my phone a few months ago and the people at alltel told me there is a bunch of stuff I can download to do certain things blah blah blah. I am not a computer genius really but I do know how to work a computer works and stuff like that.

Anyways I know this probley sounds all newbish but I am so there you go but what are some programs, downloads, fun stuff like that I can put on my phone. I tried downloading some different programs to make you tube work but non have worked so far. I also downloading google map and tried the gps thing. I think I kinda got that working.

But, anything you guys have for me I would appreciate. I would search but I don't know what all I should be searching for. Also any good ring tone place would be cool also.

Thanks

First off, welcome to the forum. Second thing, your computer 'skills' are not gonna get you very far in your PPC experience. These things are unique and work in their own ways. Please use the search feature to avoid having to post a new thread and wait for someone to answer your question. Most often people post the same questions and they are already answered. Look on site like http://www.freewarepocketpc.net for free apps which are all pretty cool. Enjoy.

Re: Things to download and put on my alltel ppc 6800

I'd make sure I have the Official Windows Mobile 6.1 Rom installed.

Then a few first things I did to start with would be
-get HTC Home Customizer(attached a version that works for me.. just install it and let it download a plug-in and whatnot and it will work)
-Use the "no sent message hack" to get rid of that stupid sent message pop-up everytime you send a message.(attached)
-get a few themes(ppcthemes.net)
-get the gps and a mapping program working
-flashlight app is pretty handy.(directions to install using the attached flashlight file directly below...got from 5th post in this thread=http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35379&highlight=flashlight)
First download the file I attached Flashlight.zip then unzip.

Second extract the file (Flashlight.exe) to your PPC.

Third copy the Flashlight.exe to your "My device - Windows" folder and past it.

Last recopy the flashlight.exe from the Windows folder where you just put it and go to "My Device - Windows - Start Menu -Programs"
and past a SHORT CUT. Rename the shortcut "Flashlight".

You should now have the Flashlight.exe in your "Windows" folder and also have a shortcut to flashlight in your "Programs" (My Device - Windows - Start Menu -Programs) folder.

Now all you have to do is go to your "Setting - Personal - Buttons" and change one of the buttons there to "Flashlight".
I use button #5 (Voice Dial I think) and when I press it the flashlight comes on and stays on till I press it again to shut it off.

Theres endless things to do with creating your own ROMs and what not but the things above are very basic installs without really messing with anything complicated.

I actually disagree with getting offical WM6.1 rom. A Custom ROM will always out do a pre made offical ROM. Use the kitchen and build your own. You will love it!

doesnt sound to be like he wants to jump right into cooking his own ROM.

I agree its way better but this guy probably hasnt even figured out how to install a program on his phone yet. ha
