Re: Wmwifirouter drains battery to shut off even when plugged in?

There was another thread about this somewhere...

The consensus was - yeah, it drains more then 1A with cell + wifi + cpu maxed + display. How much that drains your device depends on the charger in use, battery, etc.

Suggestions:
1) start with a full battery
2) turn off display when using
3) plug it into something! The OEM charger is 1A, most USB charges are only .5A

You *should* be able to get close to break even on a 1A charger... something like 300-400ma drain, which on an OEM battery is about 4-5 hours

(that would be 2-3 hours on a .5A USB port, or 1-1.5 hours on battery )

Re: Wmwifirouter drains battery to shut off even when plugged in?

based on running navizon (gps+wifi+cell data) and playing music over bluetooth, I've never seen more than 850mah being consumed by the phone. although I belive schettj may be right as navizon is only discovering wifi, not actively transmitting data.

I think it's related to heat. ie, the battery will stop charging when too hot, and this may effect the current given to the phone (I need to test this more, but my car charger is only 500mah)

edit; current readings based on nuePower CPL

Re: Wmwifirouter drains battery to shut off even when plugged in?

I've also noticed that when it heats up it stops charging. WiFiRouter causes it to get real hot and stop charging. I've found if I put phone near the AC vent in the car - it cools it down enough to keep the power flowing... Hope that helps

Re: Wmwifirouter drains battery to shut off even when plugged in?

Here is the recent thread where this exact subject was discussed:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35777

If you don't want to read through it, here's the summary: using wmwifirouter makes your battery HOT. Like, really hot. And when your battery gets hot, it stops charging.

My solution: I take off the battery cover, slide the phone open, and place the phone HORIZONTALLY UPRIGHT in a little custom holder I made. This keeps the battery cool 99% of the time. In addition, you can set up a little fan that blows directly on the battery to keep it cool. This should solve your problem.
