Offical Alltel Rom DOES NOT INCLUDE GPS.....You will need to install some files that is provided by the following link....
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...90&postcount=5 By the way, what is the unlimited tethering package? I don't see it on there site. Could you provide a bit more information? |

Re: always tethered???
link to plan tethering add-on
If the above link does not work: go to alltell.com click on "Plans" on left sidebar click on "Wireless Internet" under "Plans" Scroll down and under "Wireless Internet Kits" you will see "National data" and it is $10/mo for smartphones It is also on one of their pamphlet cards you can find in the store. I am currently running ROM 2.14.671.3 Radio 1.40.00 so I need to update them before I can run those files to enable GPS if I am understanding things correctly. There was an Alltel official rom available a few weeks ago but they pulled it due to a bug and I have been told that they will be reposting a week or two. Not to change the topic but where can I get the latest PRL? |

Re: always tethered???
see this post after u update ur ROM:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...l+gps+easy+way oops..just saw the gps patch was already covered. but u should know there is a rumor that alltel will release an official 6.1 update in 2-3 weeks. it will come with GPS already supported. But after reading about the new verizon ROM, which forces the GPS disabled unless u pay for it, Im concerted alltel may do the same. even if u flash a new rom over the verizon one its still wont work. there is a hella lota stuffu gota do to get it back. and verizon now owns alltel so... i think this thread is more important then it may seem. if we could trick the phone into thinking it was tethered we could get our data plans for 10$ a month. now I too am very interested in this. ill see what i can find. oh yeah, i also love the 'wireless internet kit' at the bottom of the page. 70$ bucks for a usb cable and active sync. am i right on this or is it required? Re: always tethered???
The data kit of course isn't required for our phones since active sync is free for download and the usb cable is a standard off the shelf one.
Verizon does not yet own Alltel. It is still awaiting regulatory approval by the justice department and the FCC. If you check out the FCC website I doubt that approval will take place before the end of November. I am sure that they will push as hard as they can to get the buyout approved before the end of december, if the election goes to Obama. I plan to add two lines for my sons and reup my plan in November to get locked in for two years before the verizon switch as rates are sure to go up and I have been out of contract for over a year. I will keep hacking around as I get time and see if I can come up with the tethering solution of course. I will use this thread to post any progress. I was MS trained and brainwashed so have lots of registry hacking experience and am quite familiar with the desktop os's. I have now converted to linux for all of my personal computers, except the wife's lappy dual boots with XP for her. Alltel tech support has confirmed that rumor to me... they told me last Friday that it was going to be 1-2 weeks, which in cellular provider terms probably means 3-4. I won't do the 6.1 update when it comes out until I hear on the forums that it is GPS safe. Thanks for the heads up as it was the rom I was waiting for. |
