Verizon 6800 use on Sprint Network???

I currently have a 6800 with a Verizon plan. I'm interested in switching to a Sprint plan, but hate to buy another phone, esp a Mogul with it being the same hardware. Does anyone know if it is possible to convert the phone into a Mogul? Also wanting it to provide all the services (tv, gps, etc) that a Sprint plan would offer, but with my current Ver 6800 phone. Any advice appreciated about how to accomplish this. Thanks

Sorry, but you can't do it. Sprint phones require a SIM card and function on the GSM network rather than verizons CDMA.

I believe Sprint is CDMA based, AT&T and T-Mo are GSM. It's more a matter of Sprint's willingness to activate a phone on their network that they didn't sell. In theory, it's possible. In reality, probably not.

Yea Sprint is CDMA, and SPrint does not use SIM cards.

In theory you right also, about enabling it to work.

Not going to happen by any legal means. Sprint's esn database is closed to non-native phones so they will not accept esn's from another carrier.

Legally or politically it won't happen. But I am just saying equipment/technology wise it more than possible, it's do-able.

Ok, this is the second time I've seen this in the past 2 days. Sprint has never used SIM cards and has never been on a GSM network. If that were the case, Verizon and Sprint wouldn't have roaming agreements with each other. The ONLY "Sprint" phones that may use SIM cards are Nextel phones that still use the iDEN network.

I'll clear it up for everyone that may not know...

Sprint = CDMA = no SIM cards
Sprint Nextel = iDEN = SIM cards
Alltel = CDMA = no SIM cards
Verizon = CDMA (mixed) = no SIM cards
AT&T = GSM = SIM cards
T-Mobile = GSM = SIM cards

This is not necessarily true anymore. It used to be that Sprint's database was restricted to only Sprint ESN's and Verizon's database was restricted to only Verizon ESN's. Recently however, I've noticed both have been very relaxed when it comes to these policies.

Just the other day I was curious and went to the Sprint store with my xv6800. I told the Sprint rep I was interested in switching to Sprint, but already had an xv6800 and knew that it was identical to the Mogul. He said he'd add it no problem.

It's all about who you talk to from either company in my opinion.

Exactly, but unfortunately there are some people you may talk to that have no idea it can be done and/or how to do it so they just say "nope".
Or you talk to somebody who is kinda lazy, does not want to do it, so they will say "nope".

Re: Verizon 6800 use on Sprint Network???

gcincotta,

Did it work? Are you now able to use the xv6800 from Verizon on the Sprint network, and to what extent (sprint tv, messaging, etc)? Also, thanks everyone for your responses.
