noob question about OS ROM

I flashed my radio rom to 3.42.30 and my os to DCD 3.2.0 but I'm having some issues with my phone now....constant reboots....anyhow, this isn't a complaint about dcd's rom. My question is this: since my boot loader is now 2.40, can I just update my OS rom and not anything else? Do I need to run the titanunlocker? If I wanted to (forgive me if i got this wrong) cook my own rom from ppckitchen, what is the proper procedure?
