I was just gonna post a question on this. I"m tethering with USB and the orange LED is flashing (no missed calls, voicemails, or messages).

What you may also want to check is if the port of the charger and phone are clean, I had dust in both, and my phone stopped charging, I took some air duster and cleaned both along with rubbing alcohol, and the issue was resolved, Also if the battery is over heating you may want to go by sprint for a replacement battery.
