So I'm getting my second 3600mah Mugen battery tomorrw or the next day and I want to make sure I do the initial charge(s) properly. What is the proper route?

Re: Train new battery

im no expert, but i think you plug it in and charge it fully. then use it until the battery completely dies. repeat 3 to 4 times.

Re: Train new battery

No you do not let it die it is bad for battery, just let it get to maybe 30% and then charge. Letting it die will kill battery cycle and life.

Re: Train new battery

wow. for what it's worth, and i've done this for every rechargeable I've ever owned.
drain completely first.
fully recharge
fully drain
fully recharge

rinse, repeat if necessary

as a general rule it's better to keep the battery full after "training".

Re: Train new battery

I agree with the DO NOT fully drain the battery. Please review the Wiki section for L-ion battery life.

Re: Train new battery

Ugh oh, a lot of conflicting info.

I always completely drain it then completely charge it and do that a few times.

Re: Train new battery

The old "drain the battery entirely and then recharge" thing was back from the 70s and 80s when decent battery technology was new. You can't screw these things up anymore.

Re: Train new battery

I'm not sure how you know how stuff worked in the 70's (unless that's you kids pic)

but this is quoted directly from the wiki link.
Quote:
  • Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a long time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40% - 60%. Lithium-ion batteries should not be frequently fully discharged and recharged ("deep-cycled") like Ni-Cd batteries, but this is necessary after about every 30th recharge to recalibrate any external electronic "fuel gauge" (e.g. State Of Charge meter). This prevents the fuel gauge from showing an incorrect battery charge.[16]
  • Li-ion batteries should never be depleted to below their minimum voltage, 2.4v to 3.0v per cell.
  • Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly.
  • Li-ion batteries should not be frozen [36] (most lithium-ion battery electrolytes freeze at approximately −40 °C; however, this is much colder than the lowest temperature reached by household freezers).
  • Li-ion batteries should be bought only when needed, because the aging process begins as soon as the battery is manufactured
this 40-60% is the level you should have them when you leave them dormant
like I said
the phones/batteries do not let this happen

Re: Train new battery

the instructions with the battery say to super charge (my words) initially. ie) leave it for an extended amount of time like 8-12 hours? instead of waiting for the light to turn from orange to green.
