Looking for app with specific GPS Functionality.

I've looked all over, done numerous google searches...but i just can't find an application that has this simple functionality.

I just want to be able to see a satelite map of where I am, and be able to click a point on the map and have it tell me the straightline distance (in yards).

If i can save my clickpoints as waypoints....great...but not required.

GPSTuner is the closest I've found, but it's really buggy and really cumbersome to use.

Anybody know of anything like this? this seems soooooo simple.

google maps will show you a satelite image of your location if you turn the gps on in its settings. (plus its free) weather you can get it to give distances, well, i have never tried.
a problem you may have is that the gps only gives an estimate of your location. it can be off by up to 30 or so feet or right on target with in three feet. if your looking to measure large areas it could be usefull but short distances are not going to be very accurate.

I was looking for something similar for the golf course to measure drives and help pick the right clubs. I know some golf clubs have them installed in the carts already but none locally. Boo...

Precisely! that was what I wanted to use it for!

Seems totally doable. GPS Tuner is close. I was actually able to use maps.live.com to create and export an entire course worth of waypoints into GPS Tuner. but it's just too cumbersome to view the distances...

I guess I'm just goign to have to try to build it myself...I was hoping I wouldn't have to..

Try TurboGPS, it looks to do what you want. Plus it'll initialize the GPS. It doesn't display maps as such, but that shouldn't be a problem for your application. And it's free....
