That's an old Electronic Tech's trick, 99% of the time it works. Water doesn't damage electronics so much as the electronic shorts it create across circuits. Dry it out completley and you may be surprised to find it working again, or at least enough to trade in for a new one.

Update on this...
I did a dirty trick. Pealed off the water detection piece, bleached it, and glued it back on. Got myself a new phone. It was too easy. I feel dirty. |

Well, at least you actually feel guilty about it and are considering letting them charge you for the replacement. There are, sadly, many on here that would feel perfectly justified in doing the same thing you did.
