Seriously, can't HTC make these things higher quality? I just pulled out my sync cable the the inside the of the mini usb connector came out with it. now the connector is hosed. this is my 2nd mogul, the first one the usb connecter broke too... I'm getting sick of paying $50 for a new one...

Re: $$#$#@

That really sounds like something the warranty should cover. The guts of the USB port shouldn't pull out unless it was defective in the first place.

thats why he said he is tired of paying 50 bucks for a new one...That is the deductible when you have an insurance claim.

Only for things that have to go through Asurion. For in store warranty stuff you don't get charged. I swapped out my phone as the "u" key quit working and I had the white spots on the screen - free of charge.

unfortunately this is rural Lancaster County, PA, and none of the repair facilities have replacements in stock. The sprint site says "sorry, we currently do not have inventory to fulfill your request"

Re: $$#$#@

I have been through 3 phones, all dealing with the USB connector getting mangled...not connecting and charging. The first one happened 2 weeks into a new phone so i was luckily still under sprint return warrantly. The next one, they replaced as defective. Finally, i have one that has been problem free for 2 months...and i am starting to feel the connector go bad. Have to set it a certain way to get it to charge or connect to my computer. Very frustrating, i think the issue is they have put so many connections in there (Audio/USB/Power) that all the connectsion just don't hold up. :angry7:
So, i can see that in time, i will have this problem again. I will talk to the techs and go through the sam bull s### that i do everytime....they will send me a phone and i will keep on living. and in a couple months i will have the same thing happen again. HTC really mucked this one up.](*,)

I too am on my 3rd phone... My connector's keep breaking off. Never on the USB cable though. I have had all of mine replaced under the MFG. Warranty. I wouldn't give HTC or Alltel another cent when it comes to this phone... Well actually I got mine for free! I had a Treo 700w/x that kept ducking up all the damn time, went through about 7 Treo's before Alltel finally said OK to shipping me an HTC! Never been happier, except for the connector problem. But this is one sweet phone!

He must be doing something wrong then. I had the same thing happen with my first Mogul, and they replaced it free of charge and actually gave me a new one. Then that new one, I think I dropped once (didn't do any visible damage) but screwed up the camera to where it would have a line of dead pixels in the shot. Replaced that one for free too, but they gave me a refurb, which I still have.

thats because the pins are not touching the usb connectors right het a little needle or something small and where you plug in your usb cord at you will see i think its like 5 or 6 little pins slide what ever your useing under each one of them and push them up cause sometimes they get bent and one of them wont touch the usb connecters this helped me i read this in an other post but dont remember where >>>>>>

I had to do this as well.... still I agree with the parent poster... the build quality is crap... just look at the number of people having the same problems... usb.. keyboard... white spots... Sprint or HTC should be willing to replace these defective devices even if they are out of warranty or not insured without cost to the user.

It is no better on the new Touch Pro. My boss bought one last week & in his words "it was the biggest POS I've ever owned"

He has returned it & decided to wait for the next big hardware update. The brand new TP had the absolute worst phone audio quality that I've ever heard on aany cell phone to date & the case was literally falling apart two days after he got it.

Vinny when you are CEO of sprint you can do that, It would not make good business sense to do that out of manuf warranty. and how can you say what has been caused by abuse and what has not? would stand to lose alot of money over that.

John what does your boss do? that this does not meet his standards? and wants to wait for the next big hard ware update?

I had my 6700 killed by a Lego, took it in to the store. They told me that I have insurance and gave me a new 6800 no cost. I had my 6800 get stuck in the boot loader mode when my son unplugged it while updating, tried pulling the battery, soft and hard rest nothing worked, again they gave me a new phone. We moved to a new state, and my USB connector pulled out, I took it to Sprint, told the guy what happened and he threw an Asurion card at me and told me to call them he is too busy to look at it. Strange thing was, I stopped by a non service Sprint store and they ordered me a new 6800 by just looking at the USB connector. It is just weird at how different some stores are compared to others.

The only phone I had to pay $50 for was when I lost one, the thing that sucked was I found it when we cleaned the garage out, but by then it was too late.

Im on the first 68 and had it for some time now. No issues what so ever. I had a few 67s also but that wasnt because there was anything wrong with them. I just got them for cheap and played with them. When ppl say they have had X amount of one type of unit I cant help but wonder what they are doing to them to have that many.

He is a network administrator (so am I, but he's been there longer than me). I'm not sure what that has to do with it however, it's not that his standards are super high or unreasonable. He just wants his brand new/expensive phone to work as it's supposed to right from the box.

He does make a ton of cell calls & sometimes the ambient noise is rather high in the area & he was pretty upset that his secretary's $19 flip-phone was a FAR superior device for talking on. That, & the fact that the KB didn't work right & the case was misaligned & coming apart really sent him into a rage.....

I got the $7 insurance too. I have had my mogul replaced 3 times.
1st-wouldnt connect to active sync
2nd-broke screen all drunk by dropping it on pavement
3rd-broke screen sometime at work

Never paid $50 copay. Last time I called sprint instead of goin to the store and they tried to transfer me to asurion but then you have to pay the $50. Only time you really have to go through asurion is for lost or water damaged phones. Says so right in your contract for the $7 a month insurance. Thing about it is sprint dont want to send you the phone so they try and pawn it off on asurion.
If they question it then just say **** why am I paying $7 a month and not $4 if I still gotta pay $50. I told them if I have to pay $50 Im saying I lost it and smashing it right now. No good for parts now.

Actually 4
I got the last one and it had a sort of messed up screen and they sent me another with the same problem. So I finagled an early upgrade to the touch pro at a really good price.
I give it about a month before the pro is all broken and **** and Im calling to get it replaced for free.

You just haven't been around the 6800 enough. I had 1 67 for almost 2 years. Now I've had 6 Moguls in 10 months. Once the unit has over heated and the user turns it in for a replacement, the unit is "fixed" for what ever problem was described, and shipped back out. The new recipient now just has to sit back and wait for the other problems that are bound to follow. Its like if you put bread in the oven, you can't 'unburn' it after its been in there too long.

Its all down hill after your first Mogul refurb.

Same here, I have had several and have had no issues with them. I just got them to get them and then sold or gave them away, and kept a few for my self. They will not bill you for replacments if they don't come back, at least that's what I have found with Verizon.

Can you please explain how to overheat the device because I use my very heavily throughout my day and never an issue. Granted when I am on WiFi and voice it gets warm but so did the 67s and my 67 was OC'ed to 624 which is something that has yet to be accomplished on the 68. Im good for 2k-3k text a month so divide that up but the standard number of days in a month and you will see what I mean. I usually hit around 1300-1800 mins a month. Im not trying to complete with anyone and so I get more than them but I am saying I do use my phone a lot and it doesnt just sit there and look pretty. I has 3 or 4 67s and never an issue. But granted I read on the forums everyday where someone else swears they did. But being realistic about it, if the manf makes 1mil devices and only 10k has issues, thats likely a decent trade off ratio-wise.

Wifi is the easiest way to get the device warm. Turn it on and after 20 or 30 minutes it'll be warm to the touch, and hour or so of use and it starts to become hard to hold its so warm.

If you've never had a refurb, you must likely haven't had problems. As I tried to point on previously, the problems seem to snow ball. Once the unit has problems, it seems more inclined to have them in the future.

From my personal experience with the 6800, wmwifirouter gets my device nuclear hot after about 30-45 minutes of use.

Wow, actually my 6800 gets quite a bit hotter than 6700. I used to leave my 6700 on all night pluged in with WiFi running to push e-mail. Now my 6800 is getting mega hot. I'm not liking it...

I've had my mogul for near a year now, and have mistreated it in every way (dropping while riding bike) , carrying it bare in pocket w/ change and whatever else, you name it. and to date the only problem i've had is having to press a tad bit harder on the period 0 key. phone is also not a refurb. surprises me to hear that so many people have problems w/ usb ports breaking and whatnot. i did have the usb connectivity problem but a bit of isopropyl and small cloth cleaned the lint/grime off of the pins in the usb connector (i carry it in my pocket with no case), maybe the refurb units are defective?

Well I can see where the snowball effect would come in. When ever we would see ppl come in the 67 forums and talk about sending thier 67 in for a replacement I always tried to guide them in to keeping it and at least claiming it to be lost or stolen because then they have extra parts and no one else gets thier headaches.

Just wondering... are you using the "same" USB cable on all the broken Moguls?

It could be that the sync cable USB connector might be out of wack and it fitting TOO tight and thus putting too much stress on the Moguls usb port.

I've had a sync cable that fit really tight... (at first I though it was stuck). Once I got it off, I stopped using it.

I have an Alltel 6800. And it has worked splendidly for over three months now. Granted I know that's not a long time. But I have not even seen an inkling of the problems you guys are describing on here. No white spots, my usb connector is top notch, and it connects to ActiveSync everytime. The only thing I might say is a problem is a couple of my MP3s (which all have media info on them, i.e. artist, album, song name. all in the right places) suddenly go into an Unknown Artist info. Even though the album art, and song name are still correct.

Why didn't I think of that? No company has ever had to recall a product. And, yes, many, many people having the same problems with the same model of phone from the same manufacturer must be the users abusing the phone...

shellguy 11-07-2008 02:19 PM

Re: $$#$#@

Well to read most of the issues stem from sprint phones.. Which to me is quite odd that the same phone released to diff companys would have such a wide spread failure rate. Product recalls are when there is a mass issue with the device if sprint felt that is what was going on they would have done it, or stopped selling the product.

Another XV6800 user chiming in to say I have had no problems that make my device inoperable. Keyboard, wifi, bluetooth, radio, etc.. all work fine without a white spot in sight. i am a welder by trade so phones don't usually last long for me. Metal dust is a killer. I have had it for 10 months, with lots of hard drops, skips across concrete and even moisture enough to fog the screen and it still works great. I am impressed with the build quality, I guess I got a wednesday phone instead of a friday phone?

Either way, that is what insurance and manufacturers warranties are for.
