Re: Car stereo decks with built-in bluetooth for music and phone, need feedback
i'm waiting on a pioneer 7900bt from amazon (225.00) no tax to cali.
from what i've read, it seems to be fully feature rich with a2dp controls on the head unit to scroll through tracks as well. it should be here this week so i'll post my first impressions soon. |

the 980BT is full-color OLED display, can be read in direct sunlight as long as you don't have glare... my entire car is shiny from armor all so I have to sometimes use my hand to block the reflections

Re: Car stereo decks with built-in bluetooth for music and phone, need feedback
I have the sony MEX-BT5000 and I would say avoid it. A2DP works great with AVRP, quality of call sounds great through the speakers, but the placement of the mic in the headunit is unfortunate. Everyone I talk to says i sound distant and muddled. Honestly, it's bad enough I have stopped using as a handsfree device. I know you are looking at the 5100 but the reviews I have read say it has the same problems. Two other annoyances are: it will not display rds and HD information (from the external HD tuner accessory) and more annoyingly, the curved highly reflective faceplate pics up so much glare it is almost impossible to use in daylight.

Luckily, the Pioneer has a mic you place wherever you want... |

Re: Car stereo decks with built-in bluetooth for music and phone, need feedback
Heads up guys, i just installed the pioneer 7900bt and it's awesome.
I have the mic mounted on my steering column- you can barely see it (looks like a little odometer reset button). Caller ID pops up as the number (i still haven't imported my phonebook for names) The call audio sounds 9/10 on my end but about 7/10 on the other end. (not bad considering road noise at 75mph) The A2DP sounds GREAT 10/10! I can't wait to plug in my slingbox again and get into a wreck while watching Tila Tequila! People on the receiving end of the phonecalls said that they heard some crackling on occasion and that I voice was truncated from time to time (probably due to noise cancellation). There are a lot of settings to tweak with including echo reduction and others, so I still need to dial it in. My car is not loud in the cabin, but no Benz SL500 either. The interface is pretty neat with joystick/knob control that has directional tilt as well as knob turning capability for volume. So far I love it. Still need to set it up correctly to figure out the best angle for the mic ( i believe it's uni-directional) $225 shipped from amazon seems like a way better investment than a $90 headset and a $150 ipod. WMSirius WOHOO!!!

Re: Car stereo decks with built-in bluetooth for music and phone, need feedback
I just ordered the pioneer 8000bt and I am really excited about it. My impression is that its the same as the 7900 but double din.
Tell me more about the install and mic placement. Did you do it yourself? If so, how hard was it to get the mic and the usb port where you want it? Also, do you have pictures of the mic placement? Is your mic close to the odometer then? I am wondering where it should go... I heard it can go near the visor. |
