Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

ATTN: MODERATORS: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO STICKY, MOVE, CHANGE, HOWEVER YOU WISH, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THE INFORMATION IS OUT THERE.

Below follows a full account of the conversation I had with a Qwest rep this morning via online chat.
I'm an informed consumer, I like to think, and so I've basically been a nuisance for a few weeks. Here is all the information I got this morning. The names have been changed because it's the right thing to do. I have the original chat saved as well, with names and ID numbers, but I only want to make sure fellow customers get the info. So here it is, and I hope it helps.

CHAT BEGINS HERE, MAY 31 2008 IN ONLINE CALL TO QWEST CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Thank you for using Qwest.com. A Qwest Sales and Service Consultant will be with you in just a moment.
Thank you for contacting Qwest. My name is Them. How may I help you today?
Me: Good morning Them 
Them: Hey there, Me. What can I assist you with today?
Me: I need more information than your website provides. Will you please tell me everything you know about the way the Verizon contract will work for existing customers?
Me: Specifically, will we have to give up current wireless service?
Me: (that's question #1)
Them: I do apologize that we are still in the process of figuring out how this will with Verizon customers who what to add they cell phone service to their Qwest account.
Me: I'm not a Verizon customer, I'm a Qwest customer. And I have a wireless plan that we have maintained for six years, and we don't want to change it if we can avoid it.
Them: At this time we are still going to honor all contracts for cell phone service that we have but will be offering our customers the ability to change to Verizon in the near future.
Me: That's fine, but what if we don't want to?
Me: Will we have to, eventually?
Me: And will we have to go through all the credit check stuff and everything?
Me: Or will there be a "grandfather" clause?
Them: I do apologize that I do not know if the change over will be forced at some point in the future as I know that we are only now offering one year contract renewals for out customers.
Me: I know about that part. I think I don't have a renewal till 2009.
Them: Then you would be fine until them.

Me: What I really need to know is how the equipment will be handled. One rep has already told me that we will get Verizon phones.
Me: If that's the case, I need to know how that will work, and if it will cost us money out of pocket.
Them: Yes, once the change over has taken place we will not be offer Qwest cell phones, only the Verizon phones so I would think that if you needed to replace a cell phone it may require you to change to the Verizon service.
Me: For existing customers will we receive equivalent phones that work on Verizon?
Them: Yes, that is the case if you are switching over.
Me: And what is the changeover date? Customers have received no information, and I know this is supposed to happen very soon.
Them: We just do not know the fine details as to when and how this will work.
Me: That isn't very reassuring.
Me: If we are going to have to change services anyway, I'd rather get it over with.
Me: Who can answer these questions?
Them: I do apologize that we just do not know all the information as to what is happening as it has not been finalized by Qwest and Verizon. Once that happens we will be able to provide that information to you.

Them: Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
Me: Just advise your higher ups that your informed consumers are not happy with being "kept in the dark".
Me: And also be aware I'll be posting this information because I've spoken to a lot of Qwest customers that want to know.
Me: I won't be posting names, don't worry. But this is not the Spirit of Service that Qwest values so highly.
Them: I can certainly pass this comment up the chain as I do know that it cna get frustrating as we do not know how to answer customers questions as the information has not been provided to use.
Them: Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
Me: Yes. If you don't have the infformation then who does?
Me: We need to know who to talk to.
Me: No one at Verizon knows, no one at Qwest knows. Someone has to know what's going on.
Them: It has just not been confirmed between Qwest and Verizon as to how this will all happen and because of that we do not have the information as it is still being discussed.
Me: According to your website's press release, the contract has already been signed, which means someone or several someones do know something. To me as a consumer, good customer service means we get updates, not just told that the information is still being discussed.
Me: The information I am asking about is information the consumer needs to know, because we have to plan our spending and our budgets, and additional "surprise" expenses will definitely not be welcome.
Them: Yes, the contract has been signed but at this time the fine details as to how and when this will take place has not been confirmed by either company.
Them: I can certainly understand your reason for wanting this information.
Them: But I do apologize that at this time we do not know the information you are requesting as it has not been finalized between the two companies

Me: Please be so kind as to provide me with the contact information for Qwest's corporate offices.
Me: If you have Verizon's corporate office information that would be welcome as well.
Them: You can call 1-303-992-1400 to get our general inquires line but they will not have any more information then what I have available to tell you.
Me: Is there someplace I can write to?
Me: Or email?
Them: Qwest offices 1801 California suite 5200 Denver co 80202
Them: You can write to the above address but they will only have the same information that I have provided to you as well.
Them: Once the decisions have been made by Qwest and Verizon this information will be sent out the following day to all Qwest agents to inform our customers about the information.
Me: One more question: If we elect to change to Verizon service, considering the lack of information we're receiving, do we have to buy our own phones again?
Me: And do we have to pay the early termination fee if we do?
Them: I do apologize as I have stated about the fine details as to how this will work have not been finalized and without that information I can only give you my opinion of what I think could happen but I can be wrong about my opinion.
Me: Your opinion would be welcomed. What do you think?
Them: I think that it should be that if you do change to Verizon and get a contract with them the termination fee for the Qwest Cell phone that you currently have would be waived and that you probably get a discount or free phone for changing the service.
Me: That would be nice. Do you also think the phones received should be equivalent to current equipment?
Them: They should be but we do not know what phones we will be able to offer with the Verizon service.
Me: The press release does specify the full line of Verizon phones, so that's promising.
Them: Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
Me: No, you've been honest, and I'm at least grateful for that.
Me: Thanks for your information.
Them: Thank you for using Qwest.com today. Our goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you need further assistance, please Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. for additional customer service options on Qwest.com. We invite you to learn how to surf safer and smarter online. Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. to visit the Incredible Internet site and get online safety certified.
Them: Have a good day, Me.
Me: You too, thanks again.
Them: Bye.
Thank you for using Qwest.com. Your chat session has ended.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I work for Qwest long distance. Which BTW is different that Qwest local. But it is still just one company. Anyway, I can assure you that you won't be able to get the infomation you want until it is publically released. Trust me, with the amount of insider trading education we go throught, Qwest is all about making sure they don't get into trouble again. If you think about it, if just Qwest or VZ knew when the contracts were going to be over or switched, it could provide an unfair advantage and could result in stock prices. I agree with you that there are people at Qwest and people at VZ that do know when the change over is going to take place, but I assure you that they won't be giving you or anyone else that infomation for the reasons I gave above. When it is giving out in a press release is when everyone will know. The person from Qwest you talked to wasn't just holding the info from you they just don't have it. I don't have it either. To be honest, the outside world will know before we as employees will know. Info is usually posted in the denver post and other outlets first, then later that day or the next day, a broadcast email is sent out to the employees telling us the same thing.

And if I am not mistaken, Qwest doesn't actually have a wirless service anymore. A few years ago they had to adjust the company and they sold off their yellow pages and also sold off the wireless service. So the phone you have is just branded Qwest. I belive it is a sprint serivce branded Qwest. I don't doubt that Qwest is going to make it adventagous for the customers when they convert the wirless service from Sprint to VZ. How else would they be able to retain you as a customer? If they didn't treat you nice then you would just leave and pick VZ or Sprint as a provider instead.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I have 5 cell phones with Qwest and the only one I'm actually worried about is my Mogul ... I JUST got GPS on the stock ROM and and I love this phone! I don't want the Verizon 6800 because it seems their stock ROM doesn't have GPS and I really don't want to run a non-stock ROM. I'm very chickeny. :)

I'm going to hold out as long as I can with what I have ... my 5 cell phones with 2000 shared minutes, unlimited (5GB) data and unlimited texting is still less than $200 per month. My cell phone rings when someone calls my land-line and I have one voicemail box for my cell phone and landline.

I've been with Qwest wireless for about 8 years. My mom just visited my house (Colorado) from Pennsylvania. She has Verizon and her cell couldn't get any signal inside my house! I am nervous!

My cel phone plan is 600/3000 with calls between the two lines, free, free l/d,, and I have data and he has Web. For all that I pay $95 per month.
I really would like to keep this plan....we can only hope.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I also have the 600/3000 plan with 4 phones, free long distance, nights starting at 7:00pm and internet access for one phone and I pay around 83.00 total with taxes.

Anyway, I chatted with a rep who told me the roll out is delayed until Mid October. I tried to confirm that with another rep and they wouldn't say.

It would be nice if it is delayed that they would tell us soon!

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

There's a FAQ up at Qwest for this issue now. Still vague, but sort of not.

They avoid one the most pressing issues in my mind, and that is what about the plans and if we are under contract with Qwest what happens??

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

Yeah that's my biggie as well. And I've pushed for an answer but so far no joy.
I am researching Verizon up the wazoo, to find the best and most similar deal we can get.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I think I'm going with Sprint. My friend has Verizon and gets no signal in my house ... he has to go outside to talk on his phone!

Plus, Verizon still hasn't upgraded their 6800 ROM to include GPS. I don't feel comfortable flashing to the leaked ROMs, and no GPS would make me sad now that I have it.

I really see no other option for me and my 5 cell phone family.

I did go to the Sprint store to see if they would do any deals for the Qwest people and the guy there said a few people had already asked and he was badgering up the chain to get a good answer. My fingers are crossed.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I talk with Qwest nearly every day, and every day I get the same answer: nothing to be done, you'll be taken care of, etc. It's really frustrating, because if they're gonna change, they just need to let me know how and when and I'll handle it myself.
But I talked with the other half of me yesterday and conclusion drawn: nothing to be done until final disposition. I won't be out from under my plan till December anyway, and they're supposed to rollout the new setup in October.
However, from what I gleaned yesterday, we don't have to change our plans if we don't want to. But I think I might like to, depending on what's offered. I had a Mogul and used it to the nth in my last job, but I don't need all that capacity now. My choices are terminate my data plan (35 MB 19.95/mo) but if I do and then I need it later, it's a whopping $40 for the access on the later plans.

Not sure, but we'll see. Verizon's shared plans are about what we pay now, so that's not a problem. It's a little more integrated, which is also not a problem. My problem would be the two year commitment when our needs may suddenly change. I'll have to talk further about that, and that's harder to do when they're saying "two years, or no deal".
Sigh.

Good post MobileMsSeana, I found that quite hilarious. It's a shame though, they really need to be clear about it.

I talked with a rep who said on July 21st Qwest will have specialists available to talk about Verizon Wireless services. Whatever that means. They couldn't be specific if ment for new or existing customers.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I was told today that Qwest will start selling Verizon on July 28. The migration for current customers is in October.

exact quote from chat:

"You will be contacted in October to migrate to their service, but I am not sure if you will be able to opt out of your plan at that time or not if you do not want Verizon."

I'm not interested in Verizon for a lot of reasons.

This link is dead. Apparently it told too much too soon or too incorrectly.

My Qwest contract has been up for more than a year but I like my plan and would like to keep it. So I've stayed with them. I'm still happy with my Apache and its many tweaks. But I'm ready for a Raphael when it comes out and I'll probably go with anyone who can give me a deal on it. If the Qwest/Verizon plan keeps being postponed and prolonged, maybe I'll get what I want with them after all. They'd be insane to PO their present customers and lose them. It sounds like a sure way for their stock value to tank.
Time will tell.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I've had numerous chats. Yeah, the FAQ is dead. it was up for a couple of weeks, then it dropped again I guess because too many customers were asking questions.

Several different reps have told me several different things, some of which are:
New customers are coming on board first, then they migrate existing customers. (Senseless if you want to keep your customer base, but oh well.)

New Verizon phones available by July 19. Hey that's today, maybe I should go shopping.

No ETF if you go to Verizon. But what about the plan parameters for Qwest? I like my plan and its deal a lot, so much I've kept it for eight years with no changes.

Migration complete by January. So until then we float in limbo?

Oh, well.

My questions are:
Do I get to keep my current plan and just switch phones? And if not can I pick the plan that is most similar and get free phones because I already have service?

How is the migration going to work when I've paid all this money for a phone that will be useless in six months? No refund, no credit, no nothing? Man....oh, well.

We'll have to see. Sorry I don't have the answers. If I did, they'd go up here, believe me.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I just spoke with qwest representatives and they told me that verizon will issue a blackberry or the LG EnV2 phone. I went personally to a kiosk and they showed me the phones. Personally they both suck. I thought we were going to get a phone comparable to the Mogul we currently have.

doo567 07-21-2008 07:03 PM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

The site went partially live today. I got confirmation that by the 28th new and existing customers will be allowed to switch to Verizon. We will loose our great plans we have with Qwest. We can hold out until Feb 2009 at that time our contract is terminated and we are free to go where we want.

Pre-Disastered 07-31-2008 11:46 PM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

Today, a Qwest Migration Team Agent reaffirmed that Mogul users will be offered either a BlackBerry or an LG enV2 if we migrate to Verizon.
After reading the post from smb on 07/20/2008, stating the same, I have been preparing to have to purchase new phones for the switch. I think that stinks because Qwest should be offing much better replacements.

Qwest has always said the phones will be "comparable". I have a Mogul and I do not find either phone comparable. My son has a Katana II, the agent I spoke to today stated that he will have the choice of an LG 5400 or Samsung U410. For anyone who has a Samsung A920, the choices are an LG 8350 or a Samsung U550. Hopefully these are subject to change.

I am personally looking forward to the switch to Verizon because of the MMS capabilities they have on their version of the Mogul (XV6800) and for the Samsung I760. However, I don't agree with Qwests definition of "comparable", and I remain quite disappointed over their replacement phones.

Qwest, in an attempt to soften the blow, was quick to remind me that we will be getting a 25% discount if we do not chose one of the offered replacement phones. They also stated that Mailers were going out today in certain areas to start the Migration. They did not confirm what regions were getting the notices first. And that a team of agents will be calling Stand Alone cell phone customers first asking if you want to switch.

I'm going to ask them if we can have Voyagers, which are the closest replacement phones. I don't need their data plan anymore, and the Voyager is only $20 more with a two year contract. I'll gladly pay the $40 to get me and my husband into those phones. I don't want an EnV, I agree they suck, and the BlackBerry was NEVER meant to interface with me. If I have to pay for a whole Voyager for my husband it will be worth it to me; he carries a Katana, and there's no comparable replacement that would make him happy.

No, the Voyager is the best bet, and if they make me pay for it, I'll remember that at my next sign up. And there won't be one. But if they accommodate me, they'll probably get to keep me. :)
My migration is supposed to take place on Wednesday, someone is supposed to call me. But I'll be calling them on Wednesday morning because my working hours have changed. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

At least they're trying to accommodate their existing customers. I thought, and said, a while back that they might not, but it looks like someone finally talked sense into them.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I was told that if I don't want to go with Verizon, the will help me move my numbers to Sprint or I can cancel all 5 of my contracts. Right now I'm planning on going with Sprint. I was told I would pay NO contact cancellation fee.

My fingers are crossed.

MobileMsSeana 08-03-2008 11:09 AM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

Well, now...that's intriguing. Maybe I should go check out Sprint for a second. See what kind of phones they offer.

Pre-Disastered 08-03-2008 04:28 PM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I also considered Sprint along with Verizon. My choice is clearly Verizon because they offer MMS capabilities for their version of the Mogul, and for their other PDA phones (i.e. Samsung I760 etc..).

Not being able to send picture mail or video mail from my Mogul was a huge issue for me. The Mogul is not Power-Vision capable through Qwest or Sprint, so I have been attaching photos to emails. I have yet to get a video to go through in an email. Family members have not been able to get a video sent to my Mogul either. Verizon's firmware is MMS capable, so that is the deal maker for me.

I did speak to a Verizon Rep. on Friday, 08/01/2008. She was appalled that Qwest was offering such sad replacement phones for the Mogul users. The BlackBerry Curve or the enV2 in no way compares to the Mogul. No slide out Qwerty, no touch screen, no Wi-Fi and no Mobile 6.

The Verizon Rep. actually called Qwest personally to verify the list of replacements I was given by Qwest. Qwest Migration Team Reiterated the same options to her.

Presently, I have to stay with Qwest until they call me to migrate, or they will be charging me the early Term. fees for all three qwest phones.
I was told that If I wait until they call, I can either migrate to Verizon or cancel all three with no Early Term. Fees.

If anyone gets to Migrate and is offered different phones for their Mogul, please post in here so we can compare options. I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

So the latest is they have to call you to migrate? I have been told so many things from different reps. I was told anyone could migrate as of July 31st. Well that didn't happen. So they are only calling customers that aren't bundled? I have all my services on one bill but don't get a bundle discount from Qwest because my wireless plan is so old. It is kind of frustration how they won't tell existing customers what is going on.

Has anyone received anything in the mail about migrating?

MobileMsSeana 08-05-2008 10:20 AM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

I've received nothing in the mail. I talked to a Rep yesterday, two actually, who told me that the migration is being pushed back to OCTOBER now. They were not forthcoming with why it got pushed back so far. The current option is a "port" which will allow you to move now but you pay out of pocket for the phones you want. Upside: No ETF.
I have several reasons to be very frustrated with Qwest right now.
1: I changed my calling plan in order to be ready for the migration. I wanted out of my Mogul, so I took a plan with no data, anticipating I would only use it for a week. Now I find out if I want to fully use my Mogul with its Web browser, I have to pay $1 a day until they migrate me. That will total out to about an extra $40 in Web browsing alone, when I could have just taken a smaller model phone and dealt with a slower browser.
2. I have been having problems with my Mogul on the last four==yes, FOUR==replacements. I am so frustrated with it now that I am thinking of just dialing down to a little flip phone until the migration, or just jumping ship altogether. I paid the $50 for the insurance and the Mogul still has the same problems it did, and I'm very frustrated.
3. Why can't Qwest just migrate its customers? We did not have this problem when they went to Sprint; they just had Sprint branded phones to sell to everyone. I didn't even see the software move, it just did. I think I remember maybe two days I had a problem with the network not letting me on, but then it fixed itself and all was hunky dory. I don't understand why this transition was even publicized if they weren't ready to do it.
4. Okay, enough ranting. In the long run, I have and still have choices about how this is going to go. I can port now if I choose, and I may choose just that to be done with the hassle. I'll keep you guys posted. I think I'd rather be out of the loop if they're going to give bad replacements and offer a 25% discount only on a more desirable phone. That doesn't sound like a good deal to me. The money I'll spend to get the phones I want might just be worth it for long term peace of mind.

I will now crawl up out of the whining pool. That is all. :)

doo567 08-05-2008 11:04 AM

Re: Qwest And Verizon Update Via Online Chat With Qwest

Good luck! The way Qwest handles things my guess is even if you try to port you will have problems. I have had too many negative experiences with Qwest over the years to believe anything will go smoothly. For what is worth, I went to a Qwest Kiosk last night and they said maybe be the end of August we will be able to migrate. Of course you can ask 10 different reps and get 10 different answers.

That’s wonderful some of us are nothing but wireless users thru QWORST why do they care so much about people wanting to move to verizon now? they are getting so butt hurt if you wanna leave now to them, your not going to be billed through Verizon, I can understand bundled people needing to wait as they will want to bundle their Verizon with their other qwest services. But for the rest of us how is it going to hurt anything, not only that I would love to have a straight answer, every time you call its another story of when or how you can leave etc.

I wonder what they would do if I called in needing a new phone because I accidentally broke my current phone.......

If they do that, let us know what they say

Another interesting note. The Verizon phones at the Qwest kiosk I went to were cheaper then the ones online? The Blackberry curve is $99 at the store and $149.00 online. The Blackberry pearls were $79 not $99. I didn't notice any others. So I would think if we are ever allowed to migrate I am going to a store or kiosk first to see their prices. The kiosk rep also said I would get 25% off that figure. We have heard that before. Maybe the online site will eventually show the new prices.

Yeah kinda sucks now with all this crap they keep giving everyone with all the different answers etc. I wanna get the chocolate the black one, On verizons actual site it shows out of stock..

Which I would assume would be for qwests set up with verizon. They keep pushing this back and back no one will be able to get anything they want.

It's weird some phones match verizon's pricing on their own site, then looking at it on the qwest one and its progressivly more, Like the glyde its $79 on verizon's site and $150 on the verizon/qwest site.

My guess is that the prices at the kiosk match the verizon.com prices. Not sure why the Qwest/Verizon landing site has some phones at higher prices, I bet people are still buying them tho...

There is a discount site I can access through my work, it's sort of like the Qwest/Verizon site but some phones are way cheaper than the regular verizon site and some are way more. I have been checking all 3 sites on a regular basis to see if anything is changing and I haven't noticed anything yet...

Yeah I only get a 15% off my bill each month and 25% off accessories not phones but still I would like to use my work discount as I could use the savings each month.

Qworst get your act together seriously!

Well not sure if this means anything (hopefully it means we will be able to switch soon) but if you login to your account on qwest.com they have added something under the My Wireless Phone Service that is a link to their FAQ page about the transition:

Qwest Wireless is Changing! Learn more

They have also changed some of the links at the bottom of the Show Details section under your My Wireless Phone Service:

Yeah I see that now too,

Found something interesting in the FAQ's

"The effort to develop consolidated billing by Qwest involves significant work on the part of both Qwest and Verizon Wireless, so Qwest does not anticipate adding the Verizon Wireless charges to Qwest bills until the fourth quarter 2008. Every effort will be made to ensure this is a smooth transition for Qwest and Verizon Wireless customers."

Makes me think that us plain wireless users wont be able to then either. Just cause it makes it easier and "fair" to the bundled people... Shesh joining qwest was a poor poor choice.

Actually I found something that looks good for us:

What if I want to move to Verizon Wireless early?
In the third quarter, we will begin offering Verizon Wireless service to Qwest Wireless customers who do not have a bundle. We do not encourage bundle customers to move until later in the year because we will not be able to provide consolidated billing or bundle discounts until that time.

On a side note... Yesterday I noticed the data portion of my phone no longer works. Does anyone else have this problem?
