2. A cooked ROM is one that you make on your own using a kitchen. The terms "making" and "cooking" are interchangable here. When you "cook"/make a ROM, you design it according to your own liking. You can include or not include whatever aspects of the ROM you need or don't need. You can also add additional programs and packages to your ROM. This is different from a Sprint (or any other) stock ROM because the stock ROMs are just that, stock. It's like a having a brand new PC that you just get from Dell (or any other). It includes the basic programs and packages that you need on a daily basis to take advantage of all the features of the PC/device. However, you can add and remove programs according to your liking and then make a backup image of your PC. Then the next time you want to restore your PC, you just load that image so you don't have to install all programs seperately. Same as making a Custom/Cooked ROM for your PocketPC. But here, you are not making a backup image of your PocketPC but instead use the Stock Sprint (or any other) ROM, put it in the kitchen and add programs and packages to your liking, and then flash it to your Mogul. This is a very vague explanation and I am sure many geeks can and hopefully will add to this. But go ahead and try reading a little bit into this...you can find good info on the Sticky Threads. So good luck and have fun! |
