TTS, text to speech - as in it will actually say 'turn right on maple ave.' 'continue quarter mile on chandler blvd'..

it will announce and say the actual street names themselves.

igo8 is the only flavor of igo that does this.

Re: The Best "Real" GPS Navigation Software

whatever you say. mine tells me when to turn, when to keep straight and all that. Is that not TTS?? i thought it was. it has to actually say the street name to be TTS??? if so that serves little purpose IMO as long as i know when to turn i really dont care about the street name

Re: The Best "Real" GPS Navigation Software

I ended up biting the bullet and went with Garmin Mobile XT and the new North America 2009 maps. Runs just like the popular Garmin car units and hasn't let me down so far. Although for trips lasting longer than 24 hours, it won't calculate the date of arrival, just the time. For example, I set it to drive from Orlando, FL to Las Vegas, NV and it only displayed the time of arrival -- didn't say anything about which day I was to arrive at that time.

Nonetheless, a great application and one that's still being supported by the company (Unlike TomTom Navigator). I highly recommend Garmin on your WM 6!

Re: The Best "Real" GPS Navigation Software

iGO8 has POI's AND buildings for most of the state maps, also, so you can see major buildings right on the map also

Re: The Best "Real" GPS Navigation Software

I decided on iGuidance 4 after looking at it and iGo 2006. I fell in love with tht TTS once I used iGuidance, and I felt the install of iGuidance was easier than iGo 2006. I do feel that both lack a management piece, which should be installed on a person's PC to manage/update the software when needed. TomTom Home is really good at this in my opinion, and both iGo and iGuidance should look to add this in future revisions.

If you go iGuidance invest in a couple of tools. One is GPSGate which is a re-director of the COM port. As TalynOne has stated in another thread the MS redirector does not operate properly with iGuidance and GPSGate gets around this. Second TalynOne put together a script and shortcut to use AstroGPSLauncher to fire up GPSGate and then iGuidance. If you look for that thread you will see that I created an OEM that bundles Astro/script/shortcut for kitchen purposes. Please feel free to use it and provide me feedback.

Long live the GPS!

Steve

I installed iGuidance 4 and it lags a lot ( it works for while then it stops even when the car is moving ) Tom Tom works great without problems
Any ideas why ?

Go read the "sticky" GPS thread, especially the first five posts where all the core information is posted. The section on iGuidance is in post #4.

I concur Gilliland. I spent 1 full day reading the first 4-5 pages over and over again. It should solve all issues if people spend a little time reading.

Steve
I did and followed steps:
  1. Tap the tray icon, and choose the "Settings" menu item.
  2. On the "Input" tab set it to "COM4".
  3. On the "Output" tab, choose "Virtual COM Port" under the "Add output" section, and press the "Add" button.
  4. Set the "Virtual port" to an available COM port, such as "COM2".
  5. Press the "OK" button.
  6. On the "Input" tab press the "Open" button
But after step 6 I get error 1359 in GPSGate error reading data from serial port
