How to reduce screen lag without custom ROM?

Anybody know how to reduce screen lag when typing or switching from portrait to landscape without using a custom ROM? I heard that the Kitchen increases the performance of the phone. I started playing with it, but when it got time for me to cook my own ROM, I decided that the kitchen isn't for me. The stock Sprint ROM with my ad on programs works just fine for me.
