Does the AIM beta use text messages? I'm looking for something that specifically uses the text message plan because i want an always-on AIM program. I find that all the AIM programs that use data basically disconnect you once you lose service or disconnect from EVDO, but if it's SMS based, the AIM server handles everything and gives the impression of always-on even if you are underground, but fowards the messages to you once you are back in service.

Palringo is great... When i used it there was also a group for this website which was excellent as well

I've tried octrotalk, slick, and palringo and the best hands down is palringo..octrotalk and slick were good but sometimes they wouldn't connect or load my buddylist. palringo also has the best looking interface. two other things I like about palringo is theres a option to send voice and pictures instantly during IMs.

IM+ from Shape really sucks. The interface is extremely dated and its kinda buggy. Thankfully, I didn't pay for it (latest version).

Yeah Palringo is great. It has a slick interface and is easy to use. Only thins I hate about it is it never saves my user info when the app is closed. I always have to re-input my email addy and password everytime I start it up. Other than that it's the best I've seen plus it's free.

I've never had that problem. It always saves mine and automatically logs in when I run it

How are the speeds of these messengers? Does it take awhile for messages to be received like when you make a phone call or change from EVDO to 1X. With the stock OZ messenger on the Touch I have had many messages take forever to receive.

Messages are received as soon as they are sent. No wait time, and I've received messages while in-call
