6800 Garmin GPS.......

Garmin Mobile XT

This HERE is some info on Garmin Mobile XT (*Cracked version available Google.com) Dont ask I dont know where.
A newer version's is out there but they have known bugs so I wouldn't recommend them.(v4.20.30)(4.20.40)
**UPDATE 10-26-08 Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile Ver.5.00.20w as of September 25, 2008 Download(13.34 MB)

If you already have Garmin gps you will need the Garmin POI Loader to load these to your phone and you can get it (PC/MAC) HERE.

To install Maps
Downloaded maps- (EX:"City Navigator North America 2008") install it to your PC and then Download a App called Garmin MapInstall for (Windows) HERE (Mac) HERE. Run the map install and it will load your maps to your PPC.

DVD- Put the dvd in with the map on it and close the auto run.
Go to your computer c drive and your dvd drive right click and Explore.
In one of the files you'll see the installer for your language click it and install your map then download the Garmin MapInstall for (Windows) HERE (Mac) HERE. Run the map install and it will load your maps to your PPC.

HERE is the custom POI for the "speed cams/Red Light cams".

Edit** To use a detailed map after you install it you have to zoom in. When you zoom it will change from the "Free Base map" to the "detail map".
I had a few PM's about maps not working and it was just the zoom.

*I do not condone pirating of software info given is for educational purposes only.

Also HERE is a POI for rest areas in the lower 48. I found this POI over at the POI Factory found HERE. Sorry about the other site plug but I think people should know where this came from and how to find other POI's.

i tried installing Garmin mobile on my mogul.
The install went fine (there were 2 install files to run), but when i try to run it on my mogul, it just exits.
anyone else experience this or have a fix?

Re: Garmin GPS.......

No sorry man I didnt have a problem. I know I loaded 3 files.
1.GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42020w
2.GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx
3.GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx

Re: Garmin GPS.......

There is more too it than just that. I spent a couple of days really working this out, and it all came together eventually. Those three files listed above, and you need the patcher to unlock everything. I can now load my custom maps and use them. This by far is my favorite program. Now that I found out about this POI deal, it makes it even better. Thanks a ton for the info on this. I appreciate it.

I love garmin. I got it running a couple weeks ago. I downloaded the north american maps also. Free gps with no data connection. This POI site is pretty cool too. Not much on there for WI though.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

what exactly is "city navigator"?
i'm looking for something for walking rather than driving.
Are the maps detailed enough for the city? showing subway entrances, sight seeing spots, etc?
also can you use your finger to scroll around the map?

cwlanik 03-26-2008 11:01 AM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

City navigator is a program that allows you to put more detailed maps onto your ppc so you can find things like the subway entrances and sight seeing spots etc. Yes you can set the unit to walking (pedestrian) instead of driving, and yes you can use your finger to scroll around the map. It is a very good program.

just a question. I have been using TomTom for about a year (I had a BT gps before I got a mogul) and am just wondering how this app compares. Pros/Cons between the two...

Does this work with the Mogul's internal GPS? Or do you have to have the BlueTooth GPS receiver?

How do you get it to recognize the internal GPS, it just keeps scanning for a bluetooth GPS and then an attached GPS, but never picks up the internal? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.

Make sure your GPS is set up right on your phone.
Phone settings: Settings - System - External GPS, "Programs tab "should be Com 4, and the "Hardware tab" should be GPS hardware port (None) Baud rate 4800.
Garmin settings: When you launch the Garmin app go to Settings - System - Remote GPS and make sure its set to Com 4.

No dont do that.

He is saying it works best if you use a program to activate the GPS before launching Garmin. This is a problem with many of the GPS programs, but I was under the impression that Garmin could activate the GPS without an intermediary.

i am having the same issue.
i pulled the download from the garmin site in the first post. problem is it states you should have a previous / full version alreadyinstalled as it is only an upgrade.
from there just trying to run i get stuck in the above listed scanning for attatched/ bluetooth.
when i skip that part and tell it to look for another gps device i get a pop up telling me its only allowed to be used with a garmin device

I have a TomTom 720 Go, and now that I found out about this Garmin I kinda wish I never bought it. The Garmin has just about everything you need in a GPS plus the layout is really easy to use and the POI's are categorized way better than TomTom's (IMO). As previously mentioned the only downside is it doesn't pronounce street names, but for $99 and no monthly fee its awesome.

I didn't do it, I started to, but tried one other thing first, and bingo, I got it working. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I loaded Garmin on my mogul.

I had no problems getting it to connect to my internal GPS, but I did 'unlock' the software. It is by far the fastest standalone GPS software to pick up satellite lock, almost as fast as Live Search.

My only complaint so far (I haven't tested it on the road yet) is that it keeps resetting my device clock to 8:00pm and the date 3-22, why does it do this? is there a setting I can tell it to not update my device clock?

So far I like it better than TomTom, and iGo. And if I can sort out the time problems I will be shelling out the $99 for this software.

IGo had some great features, and some really great skins. I liked that I could lock iGO to landscape, without having to use the rotate screen feature of wisbar. But I was really slow to refresh the screen. and it always game me memory full errors.

TomTom worked great, but was very slow to get a sat lock, and didnt have the features or the good looks of the other 2 options I tried.

It only seems to reset the clock if you use the intermediate drive. If you go into the remote GPS properties in the garmin app, change it to use com 4 instead of intermediate. I think you lose the assisted gps functions, so you will have a little longer time to first fix, but not having to reset the clock makes it worth it.

Can anyone explain how to load maps other than the official one that comes on the disk. It seems that you can load custom maps on here but I am not smart enough to figure out how to do that or where to get them. Otherwise, i will stick with my free version of tomtom.

You have to Download the map (EX:"City Navigator North America 2008") and then Download a App called Garmin MapInstall for (Windows) HERE (Mac) HERE. Run the map install and it will load your maps.

IF you have a contact with multiple addresses, is there a way not to assign gps location to it? Cuz if you do, you won't able to select other contact beside the one you selected, is there way without go to contact and delete the radio location?

Re: Garmin GPS.......

After reading the posts, I would have the conclude that someone is using a cracked version, as the official version is locked on a microsd card and "cannot be transferred" to a larger capacity card.

I prefer iGuidance 4.0 from iNavcorp. The maps are clean with good text detail and POI. The entire US fits in a 1.3Gb space (with plenty of room to spare on a 6-12GB Microsd card). Text to Speech (reads out full street names and directions and not TURN LEFT OR RIGHT AT NEXT INTERSECTION) for street names is perfect and beats TomTom (non-existant TTS) and iGO (non-existant TTS) (probably Garmin too). The ability to try a demo run with the GPS off is nice as it allows a turn by turn preview indoors if the GPS lock is poor. I keep the iGuidance 4.0 Cab install file on the microsd card and can reinstall the software following a ROM update without loading it back from a DVD and since it doesn't need a serial key to run, I am back up an running following a ROM update with no downtime at all. Currently using No2Chems NueRom 2 v5054.

It does need Fransons GPSgate to work properly with the Mogul built in GPS (hope that gets fixed sometime in the future... but it is a problem with the Mogul drivers and not the Iguidance software as the software works great with any bluetooth GPS unit I have used).

Links to the website and forum to make it work properly with the Mogul are attached.

(Cough"Snitch")
From what I read in your post My Garmin has all the same features and a few others you don't. Like custom POI's that I can load, other maps I can load myself. All honestly this is a thread for custom POI's for the Garmin not a "lets compare GPS apps" (Start a Poll). Do you have a cool POI for us? I think I read your IGuidance/iGo POI's will work for Garmin. Ill try it upload some.
