Re: Garmin GPS.......

I'm just following up on what I an others have noticed about this software. Since I no longer have it installed (and my brother has the memory card with the software on it) I cannot test this. Many people have noticed the refresh rate is very poor. I way playing with TomTom yesterday and turned all POI's on. My refresh rate looked just like the Garmin software's. That got me to thinking, since Garmin is more heralded for POI's, could it be the software loading too many POI's that is causing this refresh issue within Garmin Mobile as well? Just a thought. Someone might try it out and see if it works.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Ok, I'm back. Haven't checked this thread in a while. I've been keeping tabs on this thread. As of this posting I think .50 is still the current update.

I want to make a couple of comments. I've got the updated official sprint rom 3.56, and the .50 garmin xt software. I went on a trip recently. I have a garmin street pilot 2620. I've had it for around 4 years? (I think). I've had my mogul for roughly a year and garmin xt installed for 3-4 months.

My assessment:
I prefer the dedicated unit. When I traveled recently I used the dedicated unit. It has text to speech. Also it just seems to me, (maybe I'm different) but everytime I want to use my XT I'm always effffing doing some tinkering around to get it to work. Maybe the gps won't prime, maybe it won't load the maps, maybe it says the registration is up, I dunno, I just want to use the stupid thing without spending 30 mins EVERYTIME diagnosing what is wrong. I just like the dedicated gps units. Also my dedicated unit has a remote gps antenna that I can mount outside of the car so that I can place the unit down in a cubby hole that doesn't have line-of-sight to the sky.

Note, I have not experienced the clock change since going to .50.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I'm still running 4.20.20 and it runs great...

I'm wondering if I should install the support files update or the 4.20.50 update first ?

I was running 4.10.00 before without problems, but when I upgraded to 4.20.50 I needed to softreset my Bell touch before each use or else it you just hang.

Does the map really draw faster in the latest version?

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Okay I've tried updating from 4.20.20 to 4.20.50 and it hangs again.

If I don't soft-reset before I start the program, it just freeze on the "GARMIN" startup screen.

Going back to 4.20.20 until a solution is found.

I've been rockin 4.20.50 since it came out months ago with now ill affects. Maybe its haven a issue with other software you have installed (a GPS primer app/ECT).

That said I don't think there is much of a difference between the 4.20.20 and the 4.20.50 so I don't think your missing much but it has been a few since I used the 20.20.

Edit:I also have City Nav 2009 maps, and Recreational lakes and fishing hot spots installed.

i am running 4.20.50w with the 2009 maps and its pretty flawless only problem is that sometimes it will place me about 40 feet ahead of where i am... this isnt garmins fault i dont believe but oh well

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I too am using city navigator 2009 (north America)

I have mobile shell 2.1 installed, but I've tried without and it doesn't make any difference.

I know it's not a lack of memory problem because have more that 60% ram left before I start it.

This is on a bell mobility touch, I wonder if there's something in the registry that isn't properly set.

I'm also running the PPCGEEKS battery & performance hack.

I hear that...

Funny though that this only affect version 4.20.30 and up.

I do hope version 4.20.60 comes out soon and this is fixed.

On a side note have you seen the Blackberry version ? It looks much nicer, I wonder why they don't use the same on WinMo.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Ok my 2 cents.
Works fine on my Sprint Touch.
Side by side with my Mogul it works the same. Matter o fact all I did was pull me SD card out of my 6800 and slap it in my 6900 and it worked no problems no mods/changes.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I'm using .50 with a very complex Garmin map - topo, navigator 2009, blue chart of Gulf of mexico and central/eastern inland lakes -- total map is right under 2 GB and it all runs very fine.

I also have Tom Tom 7 and IGO8 (July 30th) and they all work fine too.

My Mogul runs them all just fine and I switch between them all the time (can be dangerous while you're driving). I usually use a blue tooth GPS antenna while travelling and only use the built in when in a large city looking for a place to eat.

As a side note - my brother has an ATT Tilt and the Garmin map for the Gulf of Mexico and his built in GPS works just fine without any signal whatsoever from ATT. The Gulf map shows depth and location of rigs, wrecks, etc, he works off shore.

I'm using the latest rom.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Well I finally was able to update to 4.20.50 but now I'm having troubles getting locks.

Also because it's not locking on the satellites, it changes my clock to 8:00 PM and the date to the 13th of sept 08.

I'm the GPS settings, should I select Intermediate Driver, or Serial GPS and then COM4?

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Not sure if I should still be posting in this thread, but I wanted to let you guys know that there is a new update 5.00.10wp.

Lots of changes to the GUI. The same look as the blackberry interface, and speed camera alarms! They also added some online content.

Check it out!

P.S. after much research, I can confirm that it was Mobile shell that causing Garmin Mobile to hang on start-up. Too bad they both can't work together...

Re: 6800 Garmin GPS.......

I update the first post. So ya diggin it?
I'm not really sure I like the new GUI with the little car icon.
I do like the add ons to Garmin online, it has Pics now and Google local search.
All the settings seem to be pretty much the same, still no voice prompt with street names.
Thanks for the catch

*Edit*
Works Good no problems (Mogul/Touch) and also I haven't had it change my time.

I'm running 5.00.10wp on my Mogul 6800 sprint and it's having a hard time getting a SAT lock and I need to soft reset. Any fixes or ideas for this?

Re: 6800 Garmin GPS.......

I don't have a problem with paying for XT if it will work for me, but I don't like the idea of having to swap Storage cards to get it to work. Too easy to lose the card that is not in the phone. Is there a way to move the maps to a larger sd card? (I have a 8GB with >7GB available.)

edit: I just had a thought. Why in heck doesn't Garmin just offer its program/maps etc on a larger SD card so users can just transfer all of their data to it?

I am using this new version now, it has a different look and cool new features like the google local search and panaramio photos (it shows cool pictures of local attractions and gives the option to go to them) which are pretty neat. The only problem I have had though is sometimes it freezes when I try to run it. Anybody else notice that? BTW I am running no2chem's nuerom 3.

i meant to come back here and post about the new update. this new one allows you to use custom pointers like the new garmin GPS units. i have the firetruck ambulance and several others. just go to the page that has them, click on them and save them to your desk top. unzip them then add to the vech folder under garmin. works like a charm.

I agree 100%. I was all set to buy the program (I have always used Garmin stand-alone GPS units & wanted the same for my 6800) until I saw on the Garmin site that it would not work if I copied it to my 16 gig card.......

Does anyone know how to copy it to another/larger card & still have it work??

I think you can buy it from garmin that it comes on a dvd that you can then put on any sd card.

Really??

I could not find that option anywhere on the Grmin site??

I ended up buying Copilot Live7 because of this & it works very well, but I would still prefer to have the Garmin program.

here is the link to all the vehicles available for download for the 5.XX update for XT.

http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/bundles/index.html just follow the instructions and your GTG.

Re: 6800 Garmin GPS.......

Search the web. If you "buy" Garmin XT, you can copy it to a bigger card. There are detailed instructions here http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/b...hread.id=54245

Make sure you use V1.5. It is compatible with city navigator 2009. If you have upgraded to WM6.1 or activated your internal GPS you will have the option to use, internal, bluetooth or wired GPS receiver.

That link has a link to "How to install voices". I've tried searching the site, but haven't found the download for them. Has anyone found them and can post a link?

Re: 6800 Garmin GPS.......

Go to the Garmin home page then click on extras then services. Scroll down to Garmin Garage & you can download what vehicles you want or the whole bundle. I tried changing the voice but apparently it is not compatible with XT. The vehicles are.

not sure why you are having problems with the link. when i click on it i go to the garmin garage. thats where the bundles are.

I was able to download the vehicle bundles but the instructions to pick one didn't help. When I click on Map, there was no option to select the vehicle. Any help would be appreciated.

Go ito your xt on your device. After you click the legal (I agree) page, you will come to the home page; click on tools, then settings, then map. You should see vehicles at the bottom of that page before scrolling. Click on it & you should see your vehicles if you downloaded them correctly.

I don't have tools then settings; I have tools or settings. Under settings I have Map, and lots of choices but no vehicles. Apparently i did not download them (or install) correctly. How'd you do it?

wow, I didn't realize there was another upgrade. Went ahead and installed it. Still having problems; I've downloaded and extracted the vehicles to the Garmin\vehicle folder. Not sure what the instructions mean about the icon in the system tray; I'm not seeing that.

rsmith0318 11-06-2008 09:13 PM

Re: 6800 Garmin GPS.......

Ok, first things first. What version of XT do you have? If it is the latest version, then you should have on your start screen, where to, view map, and 3 icons on the right for weather tools and exit. If you click on tools that is where you will find settings then map then see vehicles. If not then maybe you have an older version.

As far as the vehicles in your system tray, when you download them you should be able to copy them into an already existing vehicle folder that is in your Garmin folder on your device. You will have to explore threw active sync to find it.

I do not think XT is compatible with adding voices. I downloaded the Dr. Death or whatever it was called to the voices folder on my device but it did not show up in the voice list on the change voice option. Only the pre-loaded ones did.
