Re: Garmin GPS.......

So how is 4.20.50wp working out for people? It looks like the same thing is happening as with 4.20.30wp, where the device eventually can't find the GPS on serial 4, and switches to the intermediate driver, causing the time to reset.

Thanks

Re: Garmin GPS.......

It's working for me so far. But then I've had luck with .3 and .4 So YMMV. There's a few visual changes and the copyright in .5 were changed which I like (Small things I know...).

Well I had the clock issue today. Same issue with the intermediate drive that others are having. The odd part is there seemed to be a gps fix using gpsviewer. Anyway, it's not biggie - just a clock.

Ya I take mine on the boat too. I also use Google maps in satellite view like if I'm walking through the woods to a place. Then I can see the water I'm going to and see how to get there. Great combo the two.

any link to lake files?

hey guys, quick question. Garmin works well on my mogul, but i realized it's using the "intermediate driver" My main questions are: What exactly does that mean, and is it a bad thing?

I've tried setting it to use com4, but it searches and i guess automatically sets itself to intermediate.

I'm running the latest North American 2009 maps. Do I need extra POI's?

crazyon2wheels 05-21-2008 01:30 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

You don't need any extra POI's garmins maps come with a ton built in.You might want extra Poi's but that just depends on you. Some people live in areas with speed cameras and red light cameras and the have Poi's to show these and alert them when one is near.I have a ton of extra Poi's loaded but that is for geocaching.Any time I need to find something not in the built in Poi file I use either google mobile maps or Live search then import that to GMXT

nobrakes 05-21-2008 01:41 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

how do you import to garmin from live search or google maps?

crazyon2wheels 05-21-2008 01:55 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

The hard way naually enter the address. The easy way save as a contact from google maps then navigate with GMXT by looking up a contact.I leave most of these in my phone since its something I might need again but if you are worried about space or clutter delete the contact later.

rgv_warrior 05-21-2008 07:19 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Does anyone know how to save stuff that you added like POI's or addresses? After reflashing, I have re-enter everything. Any advice would be welcomed.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

So i installed the redlight and speedcamera POIs, but i was wondering how do they work? When i'm approaching one, will it give me some sort of warning? Or does it just show an icon on the screen?

Same question for the rest areas one also.

These are in addition to my currently un-answered question in post 290

any help would be great. Thanks guys.

it gives an audible alert and shows either redlight or speedcamera warning

nice. There aren't a ton of them here, so i don't think i'll get a chance to test it, so hopefully it works! lol

No it doesn't matter if you use the intermediate driver or com 4.

Can you drag the screen around with Garmin XT? I'm talking about how you can grab and move the map on google maps. I cant seem to figure out how to move the map and explore a little bit off the driving course.

crazyon2wheels 05-22-2008 05:40 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

You cannot drag the navigation map or the map you see when you hit view map but you can go to Tools from the main menu then hit browse map to get a map that is draggable.

Question regarding Mobile XT and WAAS/EGNOS. I was looking through the manual for Mobile XT, and it says to enable WAAS/EGNOS, to select it in the remote GPS information page. I don't see it there though. Is this option actually available?

here's a cap of the page from the manual:

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Ok I have figured it out everytime I make a post about something I learn how to do it or do it better a few minutes after I post LOL
As far as the draggable maps goes when you are navigating or on the view map page all you have to do is tap the arrow and it takes you directly to the draggable screen.I found this while playing around with this less than an hour after I posted earlier.
As far as the Waas and Egnos it looks like that may only be if your using the garmin reciever that that comes up couldnt get it to come up on the internal gps of my mogul or my bluetooth as well.

I have .50w and I still have the clock problem.
Everytime I lost GPS fix, it will change my clock to 7:00 and bring up my alarm, it is annoying.
I heard if use com4 instead of intermediate driver can avoid this problem. But every time I set it to com4 it will always revert back to intermediate dunno why.

ahhh....what a cute little kitty. I think he is asking if anyone is going to cab like install and just make it start working without having to jump through any hoops. Which isn't really possible without it being a warez issue. With that, if it was ever done, you wouldn't fine a complete file package on this web site.

I think he means hes to lazy to steal the software on his own and wants someone to do the work for him.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

There is a very simple way to get everything you need to run a Garmin GPS on your 6800...buy the chip w/ bluetooth GPS.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=139&pID=10901

I love the bluetooth GPS and even found extra Nokia batteries for it on eBay, although it does charge from the same USB cable as the phone. But I couldn't get the chip to recognize the 6800's GPS and I couldn't figure out what all you digit heads were talking about with all the street and time problems, but kept on reading because I figured somewhere in this thread I could find the answer to getting the chip to find the internal GPS. The update to 4.20.50wp did the trick.

If you buy the pair above, there's no problems with files or set up or POI's. Just put in the 2gig chip and it self installs with all the roads and POI's. You can even use the memory that's left on the chip for your own files. The only thing you have to do is set the Garmin to 'Use GPS intermediate driver' instead of Bluetooth.

And I've watched my unit lose sats 4 times now while inside the house w/ no time problems.

Thanks for all the help...what a trip.

Oh the note of pirating: PPCGeeks is cracking down on cracked apps, paid software for free, warez and such.

But I'd like to add that you don't even need to crack anything. I just used the version from Garmins site and my Garmin maps. Yeah you need those for the fullest functionality.

Oh BTW does anyone have problems getting it to give you street route? Mine says not on road when (if I have the pref checked) it will place me on a road.

hi everyone, i am new here, i have a Garmin Nuvi 660 that one of my uncles gave me, but it is asking me for a 4 digit password and i ask me my uncle for it but he for gat it, by the way i live in Nicaragua, can some one help me?.....please....

salreus 06-06-2008 07:16 AM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Some garmin devices will speak the street names but not all software/hardware will support text to speech. However garmin XT does not support TTS so you will be out of lunch until they decide to change that but I doubt they will because their more expensive units offer it.

The 4 digit code is a security code on the device to prevent unauthorized use of the device. The same thing you can do with a cell phone. With that, the code was set buy the owner of teh Nuvi. If the GPS was your uncles, he should find it easy to remember a four digit code he programmed in the device on purpose to prevent unauthorized use. Once your uncle gives you the 4 digit code, you should be good to go.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Problem I'm running across with Garmin Mobile XT is that the refresh rate seems horrible. I've used TomTom Navigator 6 for awhile, but the problem has been that places I go to have been affected by construction that the TomTom maps don't account for yet. Garmin does though, and so I gave in and bought the software. My problem, for example, is that I can pass through an intersection and it can take up to 3 or 4 seconds to show I've p***** the intersection. This can cause problems in areas congested with streets when I'm trying to figure out exactly WHICH street/exit I am supposed to take. Anyone know of a way to correct this jerkiness within the maps? It might be something simple I am overlooking.

EDIT: Not really sure why that word has asterisks through it. All it was is the past tense of the word "pass"

cycomachead 06-21-2008 08:47 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Yeah there need to be a better refresh rate. I'm going to check on that soon as soon as I'm done with other things.

So what's wrong with pass ed, anyway? It's not bad or anything.

I'm not really sure myself lol. Yeah this refresh rate is leaps and bounds behind the TomTom software. I'd like to try out Iguidance, but none of these companies offer trials, and I don't wanna fork out more money for software I don't know will work for my needs.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Well maybe it's in settings somewhere. I can't check because my mobile xt isn't activating since I got a new phone. I need to contact garmin. But there is nothing in the registry to edit checked there. :-(

Do you guys think it's wise to update from 4.20.20w to 4.20.50w? Friends on 4.20.50 say they're locked into intermediate and even if they switch to com4 after they shut down/restart it reverts back. They also get that "signal lost/night mode/time change" Am I missing any type of features by staying with 4.20.20?
