Re: Garmin GPS.......

I just bought the Garmin Mobile 20 with the maps on the data card. Can anyone tell me if I can transfer what's on the data card to my own mini (more storage space), or if I have to use the data card provided?

haven't been to Paul's, but if you want to send me Paul's money - just kidding! Do you know about whether the data card can be copied? Garmin told me it was locked and I needed to get the DVD instead.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

this has been killing me
this app is worthless with out detailed maps

that being said i own the detailed maps and can get them on my phone. I can not for anything get them to unlock. city nav is unlocked on my pc. I can download them to the device, but the device wants an 8 digit unlock code. Mine is a 25 digit unlock code. I can not figure this out. i am retarded or something
my city nav DVD came with an 8 digit code in the sleeve but it does not work either.
when ever i go into the manage my data, and click on the detailed maps i get a message saying can not use maps with device id ******* (my card id #)
anyone out there can help me i would appreciate it.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I jumped for joy too quick. I was able to download the maps into my phone, but the garmin software still says they are locked in the phone. It asks for the 8 digit code. I did copy an unlock file and named it gmappsupp.unl and put it in the garmin folder on my card. what else do I need to do? It took over an hour to transfer the map to the card....i really dont want to do this again. I think I have aged 20 years over the past week because of trying to get this to work for me.......

Re: Garmin GPS.......

I had a problem getting maps going with the pre-built gmapsupp.img floating around, I had to use mapsource to build the map list and it worked fine for me.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

well i finally figured it out
i had two problems first was the version of city nav there are two versions
city nav and city nav NT the NT version is the same info just compressed in a differant way and the one that needs to be used on the mogul.
second issue was with running both versions on my pc at the same time. i had the regular city nav installed and had used it with several garmin gps units off of my current unlock codes. for some reason the software would not allow me to add the new software NT version as a secondary
i removed the map source from my pc and reinstalled it after iinstalling the NT maps
now it is all running smooth. funny thing is my license for regular city nav wont allow the use of maps on the mogul, and the city nav NT license wont allow for the maps to be used on any of my other garmin devices.

ps there is a you tube video giving a tut on this

I just got my Mogul today and am waiting on my new 8GB memory card to arrive early next week. As soon as it comes I will try to install the application and the maps. Do I need the regular maps or the NT maps for the Mogul?

Lastly, I have a bluetooth chatterbox on my motorcycle helmet so I can bluetooth my phone to it and take/make phone calls while I'm out riding. Would I be able to get the voice turn by turn directions to go over the bluetooth also? That would be pretty slick to put in the address and put the phone in my pocket while listening to it tell me the directions!

from what I've been able to find out, I believe it's the XT and you can get it on DVD so that you can then load it onto your microSD.

Dude you don't have to wait till you get an 8GB card, I have North and South Carolina maps on my 1GB SD card. They don't take up a lot of room at all.

Ok my first Bit@h about Garmin.
It will only let you have one map installed at one time.
EX: I had the 200* map loaded and tryed to load the Lakes with fishing hot spots and it wiped out my 200* map and replaced it with the lakes/fishing hot spots. That sucks because the lake map has little more road detail in it than the base map.

Just dont try to transfer them to a new card cause apparently this re-locks the maps. Can Anybody else verify this, (get an extra micro sd, copy the entire card to that then reinsert and see if Garmin works?)

Garmin does let you install more than one mapset at a time. You just have to choose them all at once. I have City Navigator, and Parks West. I just select the areas I want from MapSource for each mapset, then upload to phone. You can select which map is the active map from Tools, Manage My Data, Map Sets, Map Source (button in bottom right corner), and checking/unchecking the mapset.

It looks like it will display only one mapset at a time though.

Hopefully that made sense.

Thanks

you would have to do the unlock thing again using the new card id #

yup my rino 120's were the same way you could load several maps at a time but can only look at 1 at a time

Right on it makes sense enough for me to try again.
*EDIT*
Nice thanks for the heads up on that. Ya rather than installing them both at the same time with the map installer I was installing one over the other.

I might be mistaken but i think Im running them both at the same time. In my "Where to?" - "Food,Hotels" I now have all the same icons from the City Navigator but now I have new ones with "Water Features"&"Land Features". Where they there before and I just didnt notice them?

yeah it is showing both the base map and the detailed map at the same time so who knows
this thing is so jacked up (a perverted mutated form of its original self) that i would not be shocked by anything.

Lsme420 04-11-2008 10:46 PM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Na not the base map I mean its showing City Navigator and US Recreational Lakes in my where to. I can find a Hotel to sleep in and a pond to fish in at the same time no need to swap between maps. I do have them both checked. Im going to have to load this again into my other mogul just with City Navigator and see if there is a difference and if Im running two maps at once.
*Edit* Ya Im running the two at the same time. I have more options (Where to?-Food,Hotels- under Hospital- Manmade Places- Water Features-Land Features) than just with City Navigator and for ex: if I disable City Navigator and with Rec Lakes alone try to get directs to a pond it errors and says no start rd. So I check City Nav again and it will give me the directions.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Hmmm ... I'll have to try having multiple maps selected. It always just seemed like it wouldn't show more than one mapset. I have Topo 2008 and City Navigator loaded. Going on a hike sunday so going to see if I can have both selected and still get the street maps as well as the Topo maps for hiking.

Thanks

POI alert or MP3 sounds not working

I have run Garmin Mobile XT on my 6800 since the 3.16 rom came out. I am now running the latest rom. I used it in Europe recently. It takes longer to get a fix, but otherwise works great. The only problem I am having is that my POI's willl not play the alert or MP3 sound. I am placing both the bitmap and the MP3 in the folder with the CSV file. The names are identical. The POI loader picks up the Icon ok, but I just get a "hiss" sound, as if the Mogul is trying to play the MP3 but cannot.

Any ideas out there? Thanks

Thats in a post a few back (Post #112). If you have 4.20.30 installed thats what sends your clock to 8pm at 3am and all kinds of crazy.

Re: Garmin GPS.......

Great thread.. thanks for the heads up on this.. downloaded and installed everything successfully.
Using the 'Intermediate GPS driver', and it hooks into several sats rather quickly. So i'm stoked it's got it's own built-in primer. Happy to see i don't need to fire up Holux first!

also using the latest 4.20.30, and havent experienced any clock issues (No2Chem 5054 ROM).... YMMV.

downloading 2009NT Update right now. do i need the base 2008 maps first ? or is the 2009 a straight install...

salreus 04-13-2008 09:09 AM

Re: Garmin GPS.......

No, you do not need 2008 installed to get 2009 to work. However you will need to unlock using the 2009 map ID instead of the 2008 map ID. I just installed eveything last night on my mogul and also my stand alone zumo 550.

I do have one question. Is there something we need to do to get the map to dispay when first uploaded? On my show map screen I kept seeing no map. But it would tell me where I was and what was around me. I ended up getting it to display after I made it route to a specific location. After doing this it loaded to map.

Also about voice with street names. I was poking around a lot last night and found that garmin uses 2 different voice files. Standard voices (english) and TTS (text to speach) voices like Jack and Jill. The only was we are ever going to get street names to work is if we can use a TTS voice instead of the standard voices which is just a bunch of wav files saying "left" "right" "straight"... So the problem is what I was thinking. It has nothing to do the mapset we are using. It has to do with the software running the GPS and it's ability to read the TTS voices. I have all the voices on my zumo and I transfered jill TTS to the voice folder on the mogul but when I check audible in the zumo it is not an option.

i tried this too, as well as pulling the vehicle file from my nuvi and putting it in the xt folder on the mogul. could not get them to work either.

I just bought the mobile xt. I have a holux m1000. everything installed fine and the gps is connecting with xv6700 (can tell using different software), but when I go to set up garmin with the gps, it never finds it? How long does it usually take and is there something special I need to do?

adding the basemap from garmin.com fixed the problem. As pointed out earlier. There is an update... if you haven't done so. Here is the current version. Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile Ver. 4.20.30w as of Mar 14, 2008 and the basemap is Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap Ver. 4.xx.xx as of Apr 19, 2007. you can find both of these on the garmin web site.
