Question Has anyone tried Octro

hey guys, any body know any thing about Octro? I found an article about it on BGR and I am giving it a try.

http://www.octro.com/index.php

here some of the features on their website:
  • Always on connected to Google Talk/Jabber with MSN, AIM, ICQ and Yahoo transports
  • Complete VOIP product. Access to PSTN.
  • Supports Low Bandwidth Codec (even works with EDGE/GPRS/CDMA).
  • Streamlined UI. Optimized for one-handed operation. Today Screen on Pocket PC. Home Screen support for Smartphone.
  • Extremely fast P2P file transfer. Quick picture messaging.
  • Low CPU usage. Only VOIP product that works on Treo 700w (300 MHz processor).
  • Secure and Encrypted connection to GoogleTalk. Google Talk messages are encrypted using industry standard TLS/SSL.
  • Message Archiving in your GMail Account.
  • Share files with your buddies (automated file transfer).
  • Access your computer remotely. Install OctroTalk for Windows on your desktop, and share a folder with OctroTalk on your Mobile.
  • Support for GroupChat/Conferencing. OctroTalk lets you create/join Jabber conference rooms.
I hope it is good as it sounds .

Re: Has anyone tried Octro

I use it and I think it is a great program. I haven't really used the VOIP yet but it is great for text chatting.

The only thing I don't like is that I get signed off a lot. Probably because my phone gets "turned off" so it shuts off my internet connection. At least I believe that is what is happening.

how does the VOIP work compared to skype? I find skype 2.1 choppy.

Yeah, I wanna know too. Love Skypes UI/feature set but I am SICK of Skype's pathetic call quality.
I renewed my account but I'm beginning to find it an unwise investment.

Re: Has anyone tried Octro

I've used octrotalk for a long time and it's great as an IM.

However, I have had no better luck with it's VOIP than Skype.

Re: Has anyone tried Octro

I personally like Palringo. I've had issues when using Octro. Like having my GMail Contact list fill up when I dont want them there and deleting them deletes them from contact list (unless I fudged up somewhere).

Re: Has anyone tried Octro

I tried it the first week and promptly uninstalled it. It had constant communication problems, renamed my ID on MSN, and had weird interactions with my accounts. Did not like it.
