Access Denied

When trying to edit the registry with 3.35 i get an access denied everytime I try to edit it. After searching around for quite a bit, I've determined that Sprint has locked us out of the registry and only a custom rom will free my phone. I just want to confirm this before going through all the trouble of installing a new rom.
