How Effective is UPX4PPC for you?

UPX4PPC, so I can definetly see that it compresses the files (.exes,.dlls) so that you save Flash Mem space, but the part about 'optimization...' I'm not seeing any noticeable change in performance between programs that I've compressed vs those I haven't. In fact, if the OS has to decompress the files before using them, wouldn't that expand load time and make programs run slower...?

How are you guy's experiences about UPX4PPC?

As an alternative, using Memmaid's .dll optimizers to move .dlls from main mem to another location does seem to free up alot of rAM without compromising performance. Again, how about you guys?

Re: How Effective is UPX4PPC for you?

Upx is a awesome tool, but you have to understand how to use it properly. If you UPX a system dll that is load by other applications then in effect if 3 programs open it you'll have THREE copies of the dll in memory. On the other hand with programs like tomtom which can take 2 megs just for the program file itself, you can reduce them drastically.

The main advantage with upx is for devices short on space which have enough ram to handle it. If you don't understand the tradeoffs or how to calculate what it better, you really shouldn't mess with it.
