Mogul questions...

So I got my mogul last week. I have been browsing this page along with some others to get myself set up... ran into a few questions.

So I have 50mb RAM and when i fresh boot i have less the 40% free memory whats taking up the other 60%? Services? Is there anything I can use to veiw these running processes and maybe disable the ones i dont need.

Second is I hear everyone saying install to your microSD card... Why is this? The mogul doesnt seem to use Virtual Memory so why not fill up your ROM it shouldnt effect your RAM. Also if a program is on your ROM i would think it would be faster access then from a memory card.

Supposely this phone has ATI video features that dont work right. Anyone here get them to work right?

Last WM6.1... Right now Im using the sprint leaked RevA release(3.16.657.0). Im wondering how unstable are the WM6.1... Im a big fan of having the stuff I shouldnt have early and 6.1 is one of the things I would like to play with but this is my main and only phone so I cant have the phone part of it not working. Also I relized a few of the 6.1 roms on here are kitchened and comes with alot of unneeded software (I happen to like the WM interface). Any clean sprint OEMish 6.1 Releases?

I'm no RAM expert, someone else will have to break this part down to you.

installing to the card is optimal for any program that does not run directly off of the main today screen. only today screen apps need to be installed to device to work with the best results. putting anything else on the device vs. the card is purely a choice, but there will be no benefit to performance. Plus you get a relatively large storage card compared to the memory alloted on device....

Supposely this phone has ATI video features that dont work right. Anyone here get them to work right?

there is a cab here that purports to fix ATI issues, i use it and beleive that it works, but the official jury is still out on it's effectiveness. do a search for ATI cabs, and it will turn up.

stability is relative to who's work you support as far as the WM6.1 leaks go right now. DCD and No2chem are the kings of WM6.1 ROMs at the moment, and both roms are quite stable and impressive leaps over 3.16. I support No2chem because his work seems to get more polish and attention to detail than other builders. just go look at the revision histor of the various builds of Nuerom v2 (his WM6.1 rom). He is always tweaking and priming and cleaning out unneccesary pieces, and he does it all VERY quickly.

i spent a good 10 mins writing this up for you, dont forget to rep me if this was helpful!

Oh and BTW welcome to the site!

Re: Mogul questions...

if you want a clean 6.1 rom i would definately get no2chems rom i heard his newest rom is coming out soon but not for sure i would go ahead and flash to his latest and if he comes out with a new one then you will have time to wait and let people test his rom while you play with the current.

Re: Mogul questions...

What is taking up 60% of your RAM is the WM OS, phone apps and services, today plugins, etc.... MemMaid will show you everything that loading at boot and everything you have running at any one time, including programs, dll's, today page plugins,

Here is what I have said before about where to install what programs:

For the most part, officially you can install programs on either the internal memory or on an SD card... but in practice, you will want to choose where you will install them. Programs running from internal memory will run faster, but there is only so much internal memory available. The SD card has the advantage of a huge amount of space, but programs will take longer to load. Here are the guidelines that I use to decide where to install a program:
  1. If it is a program or utility that is going to be used on the Today screen, a system utility (i.e. memory management, file explorer, email client, internet browser, etc.), or a program that I know I will use on a daily or regular basis, I will install it in internal memory.
  2. If it is something like a game, needs a huge amount of space, something that I know I will not use on regular basis, etc... I will install it on my SD card.
  3. There are also programs that you can install where the program in internal memory and then save the data it uses on an SD card, ex. a GPS program goes in internal memory and the maps on the SD card or an email client in internal memory while setting it to save all emails and attachments on my SD card. With this stuff, it's usually fine to install the program to main memory.
  4. If it is something that has a high amount of personal information, i.e. something like Splash ID, I will install it in internal memory because I can lose my SD card fairly easy, but it is harder to lose just my internal memory.
As far as the video issues, a fix is coming. Take a look at:

HTC Promises Software Fix for Video Issues

I hope this helps.
