IMAP is a folder aware protocol, it will maintain folder structures, and synchronizes the folders. If you read, move, delete an item on the device it does the same thing on the original copy. (Except if you tell it not to delete from the server when you delete from the device.)

POP3 downloads one folder your inbox and either removes it from the server when it downloads it or leaves it. No other synchronization takes place.

As far as I know gmail is the only big free provider that supports IMAP, although it is a common protocol. IMAP is also common with exchange and outlook servers.

as mentioned, AOL mail and AIM mail are the BEST IMAP IDLE providers out there.

Gmail, is good that you can control your email (fowarding, creating rules, etc etc) ...but AOL mail is the BEST imo..unlimited storage cannot be beat

you can also try a program called MobiPush and FlexMail.

But can send from different aliases.

The benefits of Flexmail over the built-in app is that if you have an email account that supports IMAP IDLE (such as AOL), Your email will arrive on the phone as soon as someone sends one to you.

The built in messaging program (outlook) on WM does not support IMAP IDLE, and although it will sync with an IMAP account, you will have to set it to grab the email at certain intervals.

Flexmail works well, but is a huge memory hog. I couldn't use it with my Mogul because of the low RAM issues.

There is another alternative that works really well, but has a horrible looking UI- Profimail from Lonely Cat Games. http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=profimail

Re: Email possibilities...

Do any of these push email apps work with the email announcement feature of Voice Command directly, or provide their own audio annoucement, or use Pocket Outlook as their front end so that incoming emails are announced?

I tried Seven today and incoming email wasn't announced.
