?? 2 question bout activating my NEW MOGUL. (need sprint rep) ??

alright i need some help. my screen on my old mogul broke so i called the insurance company and said i lost it. they sent me a new one today but i havent activated it. i never called sprint or anything to let them know whats up. so my questions are:

1. should i call sprint and just tell them i am switching phones and need to activate the new one (will i be charged for the activation?) or just go ahead and tell them i am activating a new phone from the insurance cause i lost my other one? ((( i just dont want to have to end up paying for the phone later on if i was to get caught))).

2. does the old mogul's esn become marked as stolen or lost at sprint? because i can get the screen fixed and sell it on ebay.

basically i want to know if i can make it seem to sprint that i am just switching fones so that i can sell the old one since i still have it. ( it just has a broken screen).

THANKS FOR ANY HELP

You have an ethical dilemna!!!

You should have just told the insurance company you had a cracked screen, and not told them you lost it..

YES, they do put that ESN in a database, and you will never be able to activate that phone on the networks, UNLESS you figure out how to clone an ESN.. it has been documented.

You did not break a law, per se, as the insurance is meant to replace a broken phone, but your ethical issue is that you are asking about fixing it and then selling it, as you reported it to the insurance as lost...

good luck

So, what, you just felt like admitting to whoever reads this that you committed insurance fraud and then want us help you with it? I have some Fed friends that would love to hear about this

You could sell it, but only ethical way is to say the esn is no good. If you fix the screen and flash it to a gps rom, you could sell it as a gps enabled internet tablet (if I'm saying that right)

From what I know because I have actually done insurance replacements is you have to send the phone back else they will charge you for it in 30 days and since the insurance company is connected with sprint.

well thank you all for your help. but before you all go grillin me for being unethical, i guess none of you have ever been screwed over by your cell phone companys huh? now think about that. also what was the insurance company gonna do if i told them my screen was cracked. oh sure we'll send you a phone for 50 bucks, just go ahead and send us your messed up one so we can refurbish it and resell it. and i guess you're all super ethical. man grow up and stop living in lala land and welcome to the real world.

IF you just had a broken screen and you were paying the $7 Total Equipment Protection insurance you would have been better off going to a repair store, it would have been a free repair or replacement phone. As it is, you probably already got a refurb phone form the insurance company and paid a $50 deductible.

If you were only paying the $4 for the Equipment Replacement Program, then this would still have been more expensive. Without insurance, a repair cost for a broken screen, or an ordered replacement through the store is only like $35 at a repair store. Either way, you paid more than you really needed to and you probably aren't going to be able to sell the old one.

The ESN of the phone will be in hte database as a lost/stolen phone, if it comes up during an activation, it won't be able to be activated.

I guess most of us do not want to live in your version of the "real world", where it is OK to commit a felony because you think you were overcharged by your cell phone carrier. Go ahead and sell the phone; there is a good chance that someone down the line will attempt to activate it; then, since the ESN is easily traceable to you, you might get to "grow up" in the "real world" of prison.

He definitely should have gone to the store. If you had TEP then it would have been a free exchange. If you didn't though it would have been a $55 plus tax charge though since a broken LCD or anything to do with casing for a phone is the max charge in the store.
