Need help with email on PPC6800 Mogul....

Can someone tell me what I'm diong wrong.
I set up an email account of my own (ie same as the one at my desktop) and I can recieve my emails, but I am unable to send using the Sprint Internet, Well funny that when I turn on my WIFI I can now send/recieve emails with that account. I look at the comm mgr and the icon for the email will never activate. I did notice that at first I was able to create a "Outlook" account but I chose not to. Do you think I need to create a "Outlook" account in order for my emails to send?
