If I'm not mistaken, the iPhone uses a capacitive touch screen. As opposed to sensing pressure, it senses, I believe, the heat or energy given off by your fingers. That allows for it to be much more sensitive and smoother, but possibly at the loss of accuracy (don't quote me on this part). It also allows it to sense multiple touch points at once, while the more common type that our phone uses merely senses the average point of contact (if the pressure's in two places at once, it assumes the middle). The iPhone is, overall, drastically better for touch, and this is one place the WM-based phones have a long way to go.
And no, I don't think it would be safe to assume a larger screen. HTC's stuck to this size screen for a while, so although it's quite possible, it's far from a definite thing. But your logic isn't sound on reasoning. The iPhone's screen is also too small to read the text and view the page in its entirety. That's why when viewing the page in its entirety you still have to zoom in on the area you actually want to read. The Opera Mini browser that works on the Mogul works the same way (and beautifully, I might add).
