so let me get this straight i can tell them i lost my phone pay a $50 deductible and sail the mofo and sail the old one on ebay shwett =)

The old one would have it's ESN flagged as a lost device and would not be activateable. To date, if you call in you can tell them you found it and they will unflag the ESN, and so far they have not been good about telling the insurance company it was found. However, as stated that is insurance fraud and it would be better not to do that. Get the free replacement and be happy!

Yea, risking prison time and a felony conviction on your permanant record is not worth a few hundred dollars. The only thing you have to watch out for when they are replacing your phone if it is broken, is that they dont give you a refurbished phone. When I went in yesterday, they gave me a new one, which I can confirm by entering ##778# into the dialer, entering my MSL, and checking the refurbished status. Getting a refurbished phone is just not worth the headache, as its a phone that was already all effed up and that they patched back together. These phones are finicky enough when they are new, no need to deal with that extra crap.

In case there are still questions about getting screen fixed, when you have the TEP insurance program, you can take your phone to any sprint store with a service center and have it fixed. I am a sales rep in a corporate store and have seen people bring a phone in thats in 5 pieces and we fixed it. If the techs cant fix it the phone is replaced. Commonly the phone has to be ordered from the warehouse so you keep the broken phone for 3-5 days.Generally you will get a reconditioned handset as that is how the program works. If they are not available it will be replaced with a new one, you do not have a choice in which you get. The only things that are not covered instore are lost/stolen and liquid damage. These cases are covered by the insurance company (asurion), and you would pay a $50 deductible. going into a store and stating you lost your phone, most reps (including myself) will immediately give you asurion's number and send you on your way. Once you report a phone lost/stolen the insurance company will monitor that serial number for activity. If you sell it no one can activate it. if you try to activate it, your phone will be suspended until that phone is deactivated and returned to asurion.

$50 is the way to go and just say it is lost. keep the old one for parts if you ever need them. keep the battery and your good to rock

I just go to my friendly local Sprint repair store (truly a great store in Reston, Virginia), and since part of the plan is to repair the devices, and repairs not possible, they have replaced three 6700s so far. They offered a Q once (before the Mogul), when 6700s were out of stock (found one in Pennsylvania, though), but I'd take a Q9 in a heartbeat, now.

thanks for all the advice everybody.... i went to a sprint store today, they 'tried' to fix it, and obviously couldnt, and within an hour they had a replacement for me free of charge. they wouldn't give me the extra battery, but they did give me all the other accessories free of charge, so not a bad deal. oh, and just a side note, for whatever reason, they wouldnt give me another screen protector. but anyways, cant complain, replaced free of charge with some free accessories.

Not that this hasn't already been said, but two weeks ago my Mogul got knocked off an end table and cracked the screen. Took it into the Sprint store and they had it repaired within an hour at no charge.

Overall it was a very satisfying experience - I expected to fight tooth and nail to get it fixed/replaced. Makes me feel a lot less nervous about having my phone damaged.

there are two types of insurance, TEP (total equipment protection) and ESRB (idk what that stands for - google it).

one plan is for repairs with the exception of water damage. the cost to repair the phone is small to none.

the other one is for water damage, lost or stolen phones. this will cost you $50 to get another phone.

you can get just the plan for lost phones and ditch your phone (or sell it as a pda only or cricket phone) if it gets damaged, but that is risky and could be more expensive than paying for the plan that fixes the phones for cheap.

you can get just the plan to fix the phone, but what if you end up losing the phone or it gets stolen?

having both costs $7 a month.

For the record, if you pay the $50 deductible and get mailed a new one, the phone does not come activated. You have to call *2 to get it activated and they walk you through a process of changing the MSID and so forth. After that it only takes about 10 minutes for your phone to be working even though they mention it may take between 2-4 hours. By the way, I payed the $50 deductible when my 6700 broke and ended up with the 6800 because it is a phone with "similar features". Thank you Asurion haha
