KB backlight control?

Is there a setting I'm missing or some app I can get to force my keyboard backlight on while the phone is open? maybe set to turn off after 15-30 secs and come back with a keystroke? It goes off sometimes or doesn't come on when I'm using it and would like it to be on more.
