It's easy, backup your contacts and personal data because flashing a new radio requires a hard reset; go here ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Radios and download 1.40, double click on the ruu.exe and voila, only the radio is replaced, everything else related to 2.17 rom is in tact.

People were flashing Alltel radios on the Sprint Moguls and that worked fine. There is a way to flash the radio without hard resetting, but its not as easy and requires some expertise in the area. My suggestion would be to hard reset and load the radio of your choice. You will need it to be unlocked (olipro) and you flash it just like any other ROM using the Rom Updater Utility (RUU). After you flash the radio then you need to flash the OS only portion of the ROM of your choice.
If you flash using a stock ROM directly from HTC, it will overwrite your radio with its version, which is why you must flash the OS portion only. Most of the custom ROMs here are OS only so any of them should suffice. Dogguy has a pretty good one at the moment.
