with 2.17 ROM ... How's your free RAM?

My Mogul seems to leaking memory less with 2.17 than it was with previous ROM versions, but it also seems to be much more stable at low free-RAM levels now.

Previously, once the free RAM dipped down near 10, the Mogul would start getting very sluggish and soon freeze, requiring a soft-reset. Now it seems a lot better about that. I can open up several programs and watch the free RAM dip down to 13, 12 .... 9, 8, 7 ... and everything still runs fine. Then when I start closing programs, much of the RAM gets reclaimed like it's supposed to, back up to around 20 megs free.

Right now I've deliberately run down to only 3.57 megs of free RAM, and all programs are functioning well. Here's what's running:

Activesync
BackCountryNavigator
MemoryMapNavigator
File Explorer
iGuidance
Internet Explorer
Picsel Browser
Settings
Text Messages

Haven't really done a proper controlled experiment, so I can't swear that my impression is accurate, but I'm pretty sure my Mogul's free RAM never got anywhere near this low before without bogging down and crashing.

Also have BT GPS running with iGuidance, and it's all working fine at this low level of free RAM.

OK, now I'll close all apps and see how much is freed.

... Closing all apps pushes free RAM back up to 18.42 MB.

Now, run Oxios CloseApps ... and free RAM is up to 19.66. No soft-reset needed -- Mogul is running great.

Anyone else notice this type of improvement with the 2.17 ROM? Am I imagining this improvement?

(It seems almost as if, in effect, the new ROM has added several megs of much-needed RAM to the Mogul, in that the existing RAM is now a lot more usable.)

You are not imaging this. I can testify that the new ROM is indeed a great improvement over the previous versions. The RAM management is significantly better. Definitely worth my upgrade back from WM5.
