Dude! PPcPE devices have been out in the US since 2001. This technology is not new. On the other habd PPC have been out since 1999. Also Win CE aka Palmtop were out way before then. MS has been messing with PPC s while a lot of people in these forums were diapers. |

If you folks want a perfect phone, buy a voice phone for ten bucks on ebay and use your pda phone as a pda until one of these amazing brains gets a good custom ROM going. Personally, I did load the 2.16 and am having little difficulty with it and no big deal. I roam through three exclusively branded service areas during my 1 hour commute from a very rural area (Ocala National Forest) to a very metro area (Orlando) and have had only two lock-ups since the ROM's release. I am living with these minor quirks due to all of the solutions this unit provides in one little package. Most would be amazed at the volume of third party software I cram into this thing. I do, however, provide support to several IT professionals that work for my customers and I am extremely familiar with some of the challenges out there. I think a little patience and tolerance would benefit everybody and reduce the level of stress and increase everybody's lifespan. If the phone is beyond anyone's tolerance, however, there are three options: 1) Flash the 2.09 ROM 2) Flash the original ROM 3) There are instances that I am aware of that a Sprint Corporate store will replace the phone in working condition That's my testimony for what it's worth. I hear more about these challenges than most due to the nature of my company's business ( www.corporatemobilesolutions.com ) One more thing .... Good chance these problems are not related to anything Microsoft has done, rather drivers, etc associated with the rest of the stuff added to the ROM. So you are correct in stating MS's experience and has done an excellent job with WM6. matt

From past experience, this update could have been made by Jesus H Tap Dancing Christ himself and they would have bitched about that too. Who cares. Fact is the update is due out in 2008 which means there will be no news between now and then and no point in reading any more of this garbage. And look at the plus side; maybe that 15 year old douchebag who pollutes every site with this overdramatic drivel will finally get his touch or whatever and go irritate some other group. Hope springs eternal! See ya next year! |

Look, a lot of people here are having problems. Maybe you don't, and that's cool, I'm really happy for you... but you can't possibly tell us to chill just because YOURS is ok!! I tried the 2.16 ROM for a day and it locked up no less than 7 times. I missed many business phone calls, and an urgent text from a family member. If we were in your situation we wouldn't complain, but clearly we're not. So have some respect and maybe a little sympathy for those of us who dropped a lot of money on something that doesn't work as it should. And don't give me this "be happy with what we have" garbage... I've owned 5 PDA-phones over the last few years, and all of them were more stable than the Mogul. Sprint always seems to have these problems (6700 had issues as well)- when I was on GSM, all my HTC phones just worked that way they should... they didn't freeze, bluetooth sounded great, everything just worked! So, no, this shouldn't just be "accepted for what it is"... there is some kind of incompetence at work with Sprint, and if we don't complain they'll just get lazier and think they can get away with it. Now, that being said, I've been building my own custom ROMs with the help of some of the other folks here so my device is almost perfect, which is why I haven't complained much until now. But I shouldn't be REQUIRED to do that for a working device. I do agree that voicing our opinions in this forum is useless, which is why I generally don't do it. In fact, I'm pretty happy with the Mogul, so I actually wasn't going to complain at all until I saw your post. I mean, that's just the wrong attitude, dude. Friggin weak. Those of us who DO have problems, however, should be contacting sprint and saying this is unacceptable to charge so much for a phone that doesn't work correctly yet (when other devices have proven that Windows Mobile is perfectly capable of operating correctly!). Call and raise hell. My phone works because of things I did to it, but I'm still supporting the cause.

Ok so out of curiosity i dropped sprint an email reguarding these issues to see if anyone knew what they were doing over there and this is my response...now mind you it took not even 2 hours for a response from sprint regarding this issue.
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxx, Thank you for contacting Sprint. I am sorry to hear that you have had the problems you describe with your Mogul. The problems that you have mentioned are known issues for the most part, and some of them were supposed to have been resolved with the version 2.16 ROM update that was released on 10/23/07. However that update has been pulled from HTC's site due to unforeseen complications that a great number of people were experiencing after installing that update. Unfortunately we do not have a way to offer you an update at this time that will immediately fix the issues you describe, as HTC is in the process of developing one, and as you have heard from them, it is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2008. There is however, something you can do to help with the batteries standby life on a full charge. Following the menu path below will shut down all unnecessary background applications that can eat your charge. Menu> Settings> System Tab> Memory> Running Programs Tab> then 'Stop ALL' to close all running programs. In regard to the alarm issue, at this time the best advise i can give is to make sure that you have fully charged the device, and that you have it removed from the charger when you are expecting it's alarm to alert you to an event. Also If your current phones ROM version is less than 2.09 I would suggest going to this web site, and following the instructions to download version 2.09. http://www.america.htc.com/support/m...downloads.html It is not the ideal fix, but it may just make the wait for the new update more bearable for you. Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business. David E. E-Care Sprint "Where our customers come first!" ================================================== = Original Message Follows: ------------------------ ================================================== =========== Customer Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sprint PCS Phone Number: xxxxxxxxxx Account Number: xxxxxxxxxx Form: Ask A Question-Manage Topic: Equipment ================================================== =========== Question: Please allow me to start off by saying that i do love my sprint service however i was just informed by htc and sprint techs that the problems with my phone will not be fixed until early 2008? Please tell me i did not buy a 600.00 paperweight? I am very very very upset at this revelation and feel i have been duped by sprint and its false pretense with this handset.I purchased it based solely on its ability to use rev a technology and now that cant even be done. My alarm does not go off when plugged into the charger. My bluetooth will not stay connected and my battery will not stay charged. I took it into the sprint store and the tech just looked at me like i was some mook and said well there's gonna be a fix soon so dont worry. I contacted HTC reguarding this and thats when i was informed that a fix is possible early in 2008? NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I would like to know what sprint plans on doing to keep a loyal and lengthy customer such as myself to resolve this issue. ================================================== ===========

some of us use this phone for work related things and can't really handle the bugs that are rampant in it.
i am a system administrator. i always need to be able to be contacted and need to be able to access the network remotely. this phone *seemed* like the perfect solution since it was going to be evdo rev a "by september" was what i was told when i bought it in june. i need the upload because otherwise ssh clients run like garbage and i'm not always around an access point. in chicago it is illegal to use a cell phone without a headset. with no bluetooth this makes it so you have to use a wired headset. this is cumbersome and annoying at best as well as more distracting than actually using the phone...but that's a $50 ticket i could keep going on but i'm already yelling at ecare and will probably be switching to palm. |

Unless I'm missing something, isn't it impossible to flash back to the original ROM since it's not available anywhere? If I'm mistaken, please let me know because I would like to go back to the original ROM.

"That is why we wait to put these things on our web site so that only the insiders get them and we can find out if the power users can mush it up." I promise you that Sprint is genuinely concerned with the condition of this hardware. They stand a chance of loosing thousands of customers at a time if they are unhappy. I don't sell these phones one at a time. I sell them by the several hundred at a time or, even, thousands. Usually my deals are with very large companies and include "Satisfaction Guaranteed" arrangements with the carrier (Sprint in the case of the Mogul). If one of these companies gets too disturbed with the challenges of a device, the carrier could lose all of it's activations in one fell swoop. So, beleive me, there is great concern behind the scenes, right now. matt |
