Silent Ringer for those annoying contacts

Good day folks,

Well I wanted to offer up something to the community to say thanks for all the help I have received here in the last few weeks. This is one little item that I have found useful and thought others might as well.

My old cell phone had the ability to set "Don't Ring" on an individual contact basis and I used that frequently (mostly for hassle clients that call 10x a day when I'm in meetings). On this phone, or more specifically in Windows Mobile I guess I found there was no option to do that and that you either turn the ringer all on, or all off. So here is a small solution for anyone else in the same boat.

I created a small Silent wave file to use as a ringer. Just drop this into your ring tones folder and then you can set it at will on those people who you just don't want to ring your phone (but you don't mind getting voice mail from) It's not the most convenient but it has solved the problem nicely for me. Obviously your phone will still "ring" but you won't hear a thing as it'll be playing a blank WAV file.

It's a small contribution but I hope it helps someone out.

Also I have been fiddling with the slow dialing issue when the DTMF tones are turned on. I have created a series of extra short DTMF tones (little blips basically) to replace the default tones (with a little reg editing) but it's not working well yet... I think they may be encoded in the wrong format. I'm not sure if this will succeed as I suspect the delay is not as much in playing the tone as it is in initializing the sound subsystem and loading the file. But if I find something I'll let you know... input is welcome.

Re: Silent Ringer for those annoying contacts

Is there a way to set "restricted" or "unavailable" to ring as silent?

You would want to use a call filtering/firewall program for that like MagiCall.

Re: Silent Ringer for those annoying contacts

It's a little thicker, but Photo Contacts Pro handles these nicely. It can ring them as silent, send them directly to voicemail, or "hangup", making the (your) number register as disconnected. Handy for telemarketers who've gotten your number.

I prefer SPB Software House's great app called SPB Phone Suite.. it has among other things a great "white/black list" option that let's you add any contacts or number to when you don't want them calling you.

It will automatically send them to voicemail with no need for you to reject them! You can turn it off and on easily and it integrates into the phone well...
