2.16 rom with radio 1.40

Can anyone make a sticky or give detailed explanations on how to install the 1.40 radio over the 2.16 rom. Most people seem to say this works the best as of know (if you want bt and no lockups). I currently still run the old 2.09 rom. I dont even know if you have to unlock for this? Thx

I've ended up in the scenario you described, and here's what I did:

-Updated to 2.16 from the download off HTC's site.

-Found that it fixed things as advertised, but it made the phone lock up continually for me, as described elsewhere. From there, I downloaded the 1.40 Radio RUU and the RUU utility from the FTP link provided in step 2 of the "Titan Flashing for Dummies" sticky. The RUU utility is in /Titan/Users/ImCoKeMaN/roms/ and the 1.40 radio is in /Titan/Users/dcd/ on the FTP link.

-I wasn't sure if I'd need to run the Unlocker, but I did, and I did have it stay stuck in the bootloader. However, instead of continuing with the directions about what to do when you get stuck in the bootloader, that is when I flashed in the new radio with RUU, and then everything came back alive and was happy. Even though, to my understanding, all I pushed at the phone was the "Radio" code, it was as if I'd done a hard reset so I had to reload software and settings again, but other than that, no troubles.

My phone has been acting teriffic compared to just having the stock 2.16 on it. I don't think I've had to soft reset since I've done this. I hope this is helpful.

hey do you use BT?

my main thing is being able to have the upgraded sound of BT with the new rom but no disconnects. or rarely any at least.

I stuck the 1.40 Radio on the 2.16 ROM a few days back and have had a great experience with BT audio. On 2.09 it was completely unusable. With 2.16 and 1.47 quality was great but I had BT turning off and the lockups. After switching to the 1.40 radio the BT quality is still there and I have no had the lockups when losing an EVDO signal while I drive (made the same 40 mi drive where it locked several times). I have only had one instance where after I disco a BT call with the headset I lost a signal for some time. That was almost immediately after flashing and the issue has not occurred again since.

So, the bt shutoff problem may still exist with 2.16 and 1.40, but it is certainly far less frequent than I saw in a few days with 2.16 and 1.47.

im sold. tryin to do this right now.

How do you install only the ROM? My phone is locking up ALL the time. I would like to try to put the 1.40 radio back with this 2.16 ROM.

you put the 1.40 radio file into the folder of the RUU before you run the setup file of the RUU

I did put the 1.40 file into the RUU folder and ran ROMUpdateUtility.exe, but it stucked at 0% when it tried to flash.

With my with my 6th grade diploma, and seeing 2kmy477 having trouble I am chix to go for it. And to think I started this thread.

I even did a hard reset after done with the unlocker and put the 1.40 radio in c:\RUU,it just stucked at 0%.

idiotekniQues 11-01-2007 12:12 AM

im not sure what your options are since this was my first time.

i know it worked on mine i see the rom version is the new one and the radio is 1.40 and my bt hasnt disconnected in an hour :D

early yet but already better than before.

herbster 11-01-2007 12:17 AM

2K-someone here will help you. I had a guy one night let me call him and walked me thru a prob online for like almost an hour. Keep looking thru threads for "stuck at 0". I remember someone else had this problem. You got balls for going for it and it will work out. I will try when I get bigger balls.

muyoso 11-01-2007 12:20 AM

it stopped at 0% for me as well, but i figured out why. You need to unlock the phone. This is what I just did in order

run TitanUnlocker.exe
- after pressing unlock, follow the directions, there will be a popup with a ROM installer, where you need to install HardSPL

After running that, if your phone is stuck on the screen with multiple colors, you are going to have to run titan_exitbl.exe. To run it, you must go to activesync and go to File>Connection Settings> and UNCHECK the USB connections. Click OK and then go back to titan_exitbl.exe and run it again.

Place the ruu_signed.nbh in the RUU Folder. Go to ROMupdateutility.exe and follow the prompts. It should take about 2 full mins to finish. After that you are good to go.

It DID completely wipe my phone the same was as if I installed a new ROM. Didn't expect that, guess I have to stay up another 40 mins to get my phone setup right.

idiotekniQues 11-01-2007 12:21 AM

hey 2k. are u sure you followed the instructions just right to unlock it maybe, so that is why it wont install the rom if the phone is not unlocked.

did you disconnect and reconnect the usb plug as instructed during the unlock process?

DogGuy 11-01-2007 12:44 AM

2kmy477... did you go *all* the way through the steps with the unlocker, ending with a 1.20 Olipro bootloader?

edit: ... nm.. got beat to the punch :P

herbster 11-01-2007 12:46 AM

I have not tried this yet. I am reading and making sure I know what the heck I am doing first or get some help before I go for it. 2k is the guy that was getting the "stuck at 0".

markgamber 11-01-2007 01:03 AM

I have tried this and it does seem to work pretty well. My phone froze up when I turned off (left) roaming with the 1.47 radio and now, with the 1.40 radio, it works just fine. As long as you don't go yanking plugs and stuff while flashing, it's a breeze. Personally, I put the phone in bootloader mode before flashing, it's never failed to work for me.

ImCoKeMaN 11-01-2007 07:32 AM

I uploaded just the 2.16 OS for those that don't want to change radio but would like to upgrade the OS to the newest sprint release.

How is it with radio ver 1.32 which I have now or will I still need to upgrade to 1.40 so it doesn't freezes like with ver 1.47 that I am reading about. In other words, with 2.16 OS does it require radio ver 1.40 to be stable.

diomark 11-01-2007 10:03 AM

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm up in canada this week (so always roaming) - my phone has been crashing pretty much everytime it's gone to sleep..

I downgraded the radio to 1.4 (which, unluckily, also forced a hard reset? I thought it wouldn't do that..) - luckily I had done a backup right before and was able to restore it..

That was last night.. and my phone was still alive this morning.. My bluetooth turned off, but at least it's not crashed!

I'll keep an eye on this over the next few days...

-mark

idiotekniQues 11-01-2007 10:52 AM

hey when you walk out of range of any bluetooth device when bt is on your phone, is it supposed to disconnect?

he definitely didnt put 1.47 on there, what would be the point?

ImCoKeMaN 11-01-2007 02:38 PM

It doesn't have any radio, it will not change whatever you have on it currently. You can upgrade or downgrade the radio to your liking then use this to flash just the OS

herbster 11-01-2007 05:06 PM

I have been searching for radio 1.40. Anyone know the link? Do you have to flash the radio or is there a cab? Thx

Would it be possible to downgrade the whole ROM to the previous version, then use this file to upgrade the OS? Wouldn't that get us to where we want to be with upgraded OS and older radio without having to unlock the phone?

That's what I'm planning to try next, if my 2.16 ROM and 1.40 radio doesn't work out... I just flashed back to the 1.40 radio today and it went well -- no issues at all getting things back up and running. Haven't really had a chance to see if this solves my freeze issues, but I'll know after this weekend... Here's hoping...

quadz24 11-01-2007 09:09 PM

Is it possible to add the 1.40 radio.nbh file and the 2.16 rom file in the RUU directory and flash both at the same time.???

idiotekniQues 11-01-2007 10:22 PM

my bt still disconnects with the new ROM and 1.40 radio :(

mcoope3 11-01-2007 10:58 PM

Any chance there will soon be a way to downgrade to 1.40 radio without hard reset?

I wish HTC would release such an installer for those who took the 2.16 bait and don't want to keep hard reseting and changing problems.

Also, if I unlock, can I relock later? I thought unlock caused problems with future official updates and might violate the warranty.

ImCoKeMaN 11-02-2007 12:03 AM

At the moment there isn't an easy way to relock after the unlock, but there is no problem with keeping the unlocked SPL for loading regular roms. I have no idea where that is posted and why people are getting confused, but if you read it somewhere please send me the link so i can clear it up. The fact that it says Olipro in the SPL will not be a big deal to just about anyone either for warranty work, but the next version will hae a way to go back to stock.

syntheticzero 11-02-2007 02:03 AM

If you want to partially solve the BT disconnect problem, try the directions here:
