There are a lot of loopholes. For instance, if one party, usually a business, notifies you that "this call may be recorded for quality purposes", or training, etc., it is legal for you to record it without telling them. That issue was resolved in court years ago. And the law is state-by-state, not country-wide in the US. And if you start receiving treatening calls, you can record them.

It's actually a state by state scenario. In Texas, the law states something like at least one member of the conversation must know the call is being recorded. So, if I'm on the call and recording, I know I'm recording so I'm within the law. Bsically, it means you are allowed to record your own calls.

actually it's not illegal if you are party to the conversation - it is illegal to tap into and record a call between 2 other parties without their consent.

huh? What? It is still illegal in some states without permission. That's why when you call some places, they let you know the call is being recorded so you can hang up if you dont consent.
