android 2.1 on mytouch 3g with 3.5 mm headphone jack

i know this is probably a stupid question but im used to windows smartphones i just bought a mytouch and am wondering if i can get android 2.1 on it cuz i saw an announcement from t-mobile saying they were going to do it a while ago but i looked and mine is running 1.6 build
