HTC Task manager button gone! how to bring it back?

After installing PhoneAlarm, my HTC task manager button (the thing in the upper right hand corner of the screen that lets me close apps) appears to be gone. I have it enabled in settings -> tasks -> button but it's gone! Any idea how to bring it back?

I have SPB Pocket Plus, which also has a task button, but it's not as good because unlike the HTC button, it appears not to have a way to act differently depending on whether the Today screen is up or not. That is, hitting it in Today brings up the list of running tasks, while hitting it in another app closes/minimizes the app. Or am I missing it and this can be done with the SPB button?
