I seem to recall the today plugin having a notification, but it's been a while. Even if you don't use the today plugin, you can still use the contact manager and SMS aspect.

Use this. Use shortcut maker to put in start menu, map to hardware key and don't type anything.

tellme is great to use while driving but is too slow otherwise.
