Unlock windows folder

Has anybody figured out how to unlock the windows folder, I have tried all of the old methods for win5, win6, win6.1 with no luck. I can copy anything out of the windows folder to my storage card using total commander but when I try to view it on my pc most of the files are hidden. They show up in the storage card folder when viewing with total commander, any help would be very much appreciated.

On Windows 7 / Vista: In any folder go to Organize > Folder and Search Options > View tab...
