how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

I see a small icon that looks like a TV with an exclamation mark next to it, in the notification var at the top of the screen. Presumably it's telling me that I haven't subscribed to Verizon's TV service. Any way to get rid of this thing?

I believe this is the Million dollar question. I haven't seen anyway to remove it yet -- no fix here or on XDA. I'm not sure if you could use a reg edit or not. It's probably going to take a custom ROM to completely remove it.

It is definately annoying and useless especially for someone like me who will never use the TV service.

yeah it would be cool to get rid of this notification since I am not using it..

Im not sure but does anyone ask HTC or Verizon these sort of questions? I mean shouldn't they do what the customer wants? I have asked but get no answers. YES that little TV sucks I dont want or need it.

if you have ever been to the Verizon forums you would see that Verizon doesn't care enough about thier customers to respond to any questions or requests. They have HORRIBLE customer service.

I can't wait for custom roms.

Typically when calling tech support for something like this, they will assist you in changing whatever items are available within the standard system menus. When it comes to asking them how to hack their product to remove unwanted items, they'll simply tell you it's not possible lol.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

I suspect it's a dll file loaded at startup in the current ROM that ties into the Mediaflo receiver in the device. Basically unless someone finds a way to hack said DLL from loading, or obviously we get an unlocker and custom ROMs with it stripped out, I don't think we'll be able to remove it.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

The icon doesn't annoy me so much, it's the fact that I can't turn off the radio for it that bothers me. Having it on and constantly searching for a signal can't be helping battery life at all.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

I dont know how to remove it nor stop it from loading at start up but I can kill the exe from using 600K worth of memory. After the exe is killed you will get a TV icon with an X in it. :D

Actually~I bet this is sucking program memory as well----draining the battery every time it looks for a signal and if you live on the border of coverage I bet it switches back and forth all day long. The more I think about this damn mobile TV the more irritated I get. You would think that it would be an easy fix. I say "easy" but I don't have the skill set to do this.

Any good ideas out there~there are so many people in this community and over at XDA that I bet could do this. I'd be willing to give a donation for the person that solves this!

Hope everyone is having a good saturday!!

I'll take that bold part back.
I found that by deleting the reg key "Launch95=mflo_starter.exe" under HKLM\init\ will stop it from loading at start up. However the icon w/ an x will appear. I think that has to do with the dll that display status bar. Just need to find one to replace it and it should solve this problem.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

good to know. thanks!

edit - looks like this is under Launch95... had to click thorugh all of them to find the right one :)
edit - stopped it from loading and i still get a tv/ no x. not sure what this means but i checked and it is NOT running.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

Mediaflo is a one way deal. Its not like the cellular voice radio that sends, and recieves. Does your AM/FM radio "Look" for signal? Nope, It just recieves it if its there, not constintlly searching for it. I wouldn't be concerned at all, except for the annoying icon.

Yes but 1-way or not, it is an active radio which means power is being drained. That's why people want to find a way to disable it, but I have a feeling, it will take more than stopping the app from running to do that, but perhaps it drains less if the app is not running. We can hope, at least until an unlocker is found and the real cooking can begin.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

I'm not trying to start and arg or anything but if its and active radio it proves its using power? If the screen is active but the display is off is it still using power? I just don't understand how that proves it is using power thats all? By all means i would like to get it out of memory and remove the useless icon but i'm just not seeing the power point..

Maybe you're not seeing the power point because you don't have the pptx compatibility download? ;)

I am using CERegEditor. When I try to delete the value, it says 'cannot delete value'.

I assume there is some permission setting. Can someone point me in the right direction to remove this entry. Thanks.

Use Total Commander to delete the entry, I had no problem.

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

Deletes the TV from task Bar by making it so it can't find the file, by adding something to the existing name:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\MFLORSSI]
Key: DLL
Value: !MFLO_RSSI.dll

from
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=101162

(Add an exclamation point before MFLo_RSSI.dll in the DLL key....)

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

I figured out how to remove the icon only if you don't actually watch TV on your phone. So if you don't, all you have to do is stop the service located here...

HKLM\Services\MFLORSSI

Set Flags to 4 and softreset phone

No more icon...

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

worked like a charm. no ill effects noted. I went into MemMaid and looked to see start up services, but was too chicken to delete mflorssi. I could'nt understand if it would delete the registry entry or only disable it from start up services. In any event, just changing the value as you suggested works.
Thanks!

Long time viewer first time poster.

So guys, I tried to use CERegEditor to edit this key per your wonderful instructions but I get an error. I'm told that I cannot delete registry key.

I'm assuming I'm doing something painfully stupid and just can't see it. If someone could please inform me thanks...apologies for my ignorance on this one

Use total commander.

nsa_sailor 12-29-2009 10:31 AM

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

Don't delete the key, just change the value. Suggestion says to add an exclamation point to the name e.g. !mflorssi.exe

psukardi 12-29-2009 11:30 AM

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

Ok, I'll try total commander since it seems no matter what I try with CERegEditor it says denied. However, I should note it did allow me to change the long hangup thing.

Want to say thanks again guys..this site is great

Here is a cab that deletes the following:
HKLM/init/Launch95
HKLM/init/Depend95
HKLM/Sevices/MFLORSSI

And changes:
HKLM/Sevices/MFLORSSI/Dll/MFLO_RSSI.dll
To:
HKLM/Sevices/MFLORSSI/Dll/!MFLO_RSSI.dll

This cab definitely works, I did a hard reset and used this cab: TV Icon GONE.

This works for me. And since I will never subcribe to this service, deleting it is okay with me.

If you use this cab and it works for you, please hit the thank button.

Did you rename the key value ala post #22?

Sorry, cbreze, I uploaded the wrong cab, I have been messing with different registry deletions and grabbed the wrong one. Click the link again and reinstall then soft reset.

I've tried both v. now and still the icon remains. I'm not that comfortable tweaking registry settings or I'd go that route. Don't know whats going on if it's working for everybody else.(cab).....Thanks anyway

Re: how to remove TV icon from the notification bar?

So much nicer without that stupid TV icon up there. From a UI standpoint that bar was just too "busy".

Things look a lot cleaner now. Now to continue tweaking this thing until it looks perfect - OR someone figures out how to get Android working on it. Whatever comes first

The Cab didnet work for me either, I guess we will just have to face our fears and learn to reg edit.

Nope. It still didn't work. On mine anyway.

Went back to post 22. That worked for me.
