Here is the link to "Steve's Imagio Manilla"... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=121040 It is 6.5.x (not sure if it is 6.5.3 or 6.5.5) It is buld 25563 so I think that is 6.5.5. Oh - but this is a "do it your self rom" Forgot about that. In other words it comes practically empty so you can add your own stuff. Which is cool for me. But it comes really empty. No Office Suite. No Marketplace. No My Phone. No Teeter (which of course is a real tragedy). PIE as the only web browser. So you have to have all your .cabs ready to go. To some this might be one of those "issues". To me it is an asset as I don't have to have a bunch of stuff cooked in that I am never going to use. |

I always enjoyed a ROM with all the verizon crapola removed since I don't use or need that stuff. Plus you can always go back to stock. So what's not to like. Nothing ventured, nothing gained tho. Whatever works for ya!

That is where I am confused. I assume an official update for the HTC Imagio I purchased from Verizon would be on Verizon's or HTC's sites. |

It is for real. There was an entire thread here on PPCG discussing the leaked MR1 upgrade that became the official MR1 upgrade. Dang! Now I can't find it. Was going to link to it but maybe it got deleted. So you can flash that one no problem. You don't even have to unlock your phone bc it is an official upgrade. |

Re: What's the point?
if you read up on Windows Mobile 7 that is about to come out there is talk that addresses the fact that Microsoft nor HTC currently release updates for WM 6.x on time. Supposedly Windows Mobile 7 will fix that issue and these updates will only come from one source and should be more readily availble.
The problem with Windows Mobile so far is that each ROM has a number of bugs, wether it be 5, 6.0, 6.1 and beyond. Every new update fixes bugs in the previous version. So even if you never flashed a custom rom, eventually an official update *may* come to your phone which would require you to flash it if you so chose. I still can't figure out who was responsible for the updates officially. For example, on the Motorola Q9 series phones there were several updates released through Motorola's site for 6.1. However, the Q9M for whatever reason never got one. Then Verizon picked up the Q9C which for all intensive purposes was the exact same phone except for a 6.1 software update. So, users who wanted 6.1 had to flash their phones to this unofficial ROM. I read somewhere that these updates are specific to carrier and amount of units the carrier has sold. So it's probably fair to say that if your phone is popular it will be more prone to receiving an update. So there are several reasons why someone might want to flash, many reasons have been given. Another prevailing factor is that Microsoft continues to develop Sense with WM 6.5.x builds and is not pushing these updates to many carriers. If you lucked out and bought a HD2 you may have one of the latest builds but if you have a Imagio you are out of luck for the time being.

Re: What's the point?
the honest truth kev is that once most of these roms (nrgy, my clean imagio, etc) have been out for a few weeks & any major bugs @ release are worked out. they are far & away faster, more stable & massively more functional than the HTC/Verizon bs they put on the phones.
i just got another replacement. that meant first using my last phone reflashed & locked for 2 days + waiting two days for the current phone to be unlocked so i could flash it. i liked to have pulled my hair out on the current VZ/HTC rom. seriously... the stock roms are just that bad. AFA "having" to update flashed roms. Who in god's earth said you "had" to do anything??? Lord I used one version of MCI without issue for over a month. My cousin is STILL using the second released version with no issue. My best friend updates NRGY every 3-4 weeks... At some point you have to realize a fundimental truth. The phone is exactly like a windows computer. It should be reformatted every so often just to keep the "newness" going on. You know that happy feeling immediately after a VZ rom update/reflash that lasts all of about 45 min before it slows down??? Now imagine that feeling for atleast the first week once you get a good rom up & every subsequent reboot providing you dont install something stupid in the background! |

let us not forget the #1 outstanding reason to flash a rom in the first place...
battery life, lawlz! stock = pissy tweaked = slightly better highly tweaked custom rom = playing with my old imagio flashed to the may 13th NRGY & hellaciously tweaked out. my phone went from 96% SOC to 92% SOC sitting on my pillow for 7 hours after a reboot and i liked to have crapped myself. That's with updates enabled too. twitter (1h) facebook (1h) email (1h) weather (1h) the stock roms, even every time id tweak a stock rom, can't begin to touch the battery drain non-stock roms can achive. (The lowest # ive seen on nrgy once tweaked out for multiple consecutive loggings overnight set to 60s was 27ma/h = crazy) performance is #2. they simply run much longer without bogging down. no more reboots or running windows 98 era ram cleaner bs every few hours just to keep it fresh! |
