still don't own it

but I have a few questions about HTC Imagios before going out to buy.

It sounds as though there are a few build quality complaints-
given that, how is warranty handled if you purchase an unlocked phone from other than a provider?

Assuming I buy an unlocked [unbranded?], it is likely that I'll migrate to a Verizon plan [since their n/w is like a blow torch in my bldg. v. the almost no-signal I get fr ATT] but before migrating, if I want to use it w/my ATT or other gsm provider, what will I need to do to enable that?

And finally,
If I buy from a priv user [CL, ebay, etc] are these phones warranted only to the original user?

Thanks.
these look like the best Win smartphones around for the money, for my requirements.

No warranty on used phones from Verizon or any other carrier. If you get a Verizon you can unlock the SIM card and talk on AT&Trash but won't be able to use the data on AT&Trash.

Re: still don't own it

Are you're saying that the web/email data downloads from a GSM n/w are not compatible with HTC Imagio architecture or their version of Win mobile?

wow. Glad I asked

Re: still don't own it

HTC should warranty a phone for one year no matter if you are the second owner. I would ask them to be sure.

Verizon will not activate a unbranded , unlocked phone on their network. The phone has to have a Verizon ESN number to be activated. The only unlocked Imagios are in the China market and they are gsm which won't work on the VZW network.

Re: still don't own it

OK. So I have to actually buy a Verizon plan to acquire said phone, since if I were to buy it unlocked first, use it on another GSM n/w, then decided I wanted a Vrz plan later, Vrz would refuse outright since the phone is not Vrz branded [meaning tuned/de-tuned to their n/w specs].

Sorry if I've stated all of this in an oblique way.
I just like the phone, but don't want a Vrz plan until I have first decided it's good enough on GSM, whether AT&T, TMobile, etc. But in the event its sorely lacking on a given GSM n/w, then I would cave in to Vrz.

correction to last post:...."but don't want a Vrz plan until I have first decided it's NOT good enough on GSM"

apologies for the omission.
