First, the demo looked great. The integration with web services, the design, everything looked top notch. Second, because I own a Zune HD and LOVE the interface. If you own a Zune HD, you know exactly what I'm talking about. So I'll relish the few months I have left with Sense UI and the Imagio, but come Windows Phone 7, I'll be switching.

As long as xda-developers is in business there will be free apps on the internet and you will be able to mod windows phones. They can hack anything windows.

Re: So long to enthusiasts... welcome Windows 7 Phone Series
Ok, so I misspoke by saying free apps... moreso freely available apps. One of the things I like about Windows Mobile is I can google an app, and find something free, mature and useful in an instant. Then I can just copy it to my phone and install, either on SD card or on the phone. Now, everything will be through their app store, and it will require an approval process too. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't go all power-crazy with app approval. I can't remember for sure, but I seem to recall that programs will only be able to appear on the inbuilt memory too, which means no memory card support.
But now that I'm starting to see some reviews of the new interface, it does look like there is a lot of enthusiasm. So I'll definitely give it a chance. Hopefully ppcgeeks and xda-developers still has the ability to tweek these things. |

Re: So long to enthusiasts... welcome Windows 7 Phone Series
good riddance TF3D, mobile shell, samsung UI and and all other garbage mucking up new phones.
WP7 is said to be highly extensible so i'd drop the "we cant customize anything" until next month MIX developer conference ![]() WP7 makes android look Win95-like and sends iPhone to Mac status where it was destined (1 carrier in the USA, niche audience) WP7 will get GREAT REVIEWS you can bet the farm on that... the UI is simply mind boggling, nevermind it's coming from microsoft. Great job MS. |

Re: So long to enthusiasts... welcome Windows 7 Phone Series
Windows Mobile 6.5.x will still be around for sometime. And there will be Windows Phone Business edition, which will be customizable with no game/facebook integration. MS doesn't want to piss off those customers.

Re: So long to enthusiasts... welcome Windows 7 Phone Series
Actually I just watched a demo on microsoft.com and it looks ok. I think I will go with something more customizable if WP7 doesn't allow for that. I sort of like the way it is but couldn't imagine it would be perfect for every use. The ability to customize and write software for the platform is a must. We'll see.....
